The South does outclass anywhere else. I hate to say it out loud, but if you saw a local Catholic school's recent yearbook senior class photos (not BR but in the south) you would think it was headshots from an international model agency. In fact, a dozen of them were walking runways at Fashion Week when they were still in high school. I have wondered if it was steroids in the food chain or the chemical plants upriver on the Mississippi (something in the water as you speculated). No pics. You simply wouldn't believe me. And it's an OU/TX thread, so let it stay second-tier like their football programs.
