These are computers, these are not humans, nobody voted on this. Just to get that out of the way.

The data early in the season starts with mostly preseason data and then as the weeks go on in season data is added until around week 4 or 5 the preseason data is all gone. So, this is still a lot of preseason stuff plus very small amounts on in-season data. Still, a lot of changes for some teams from the original preseason rankings (LSU moved up 15-20 spots I believe).

I've probably asked this before but are they only using week 1 data here or does it take into account the prior year?

And yet somehow it's going to get missed.

George, you know that is complete BS because after only 1 week the "opponent adjusted" is based off human preseason assumptions

Starts with preseason data and then as the weeks go on starts replacing it with more and more in-season data

So, it's some returning starters/etc stuff and some in-season data until around week 4-5 I think.

That is actually true, yes, but all of that is based on returning starters and other filler data from the preseason.

The point is it's not a human being power ranking, which we end up having 675 discussions about every week.

41 spaces between them, and not in the Vols favor

Who would ever have thought that a decade ago

Changes from Preseason to Week 1

Vanderbilt +37
Florida +14
LSU +6
Ole Miss +3
Missouri +3
Alabama +2
Texas A&M +2
Auburn -1
Kentucky +1
Georgia (0)
South Carolina -1
Arkansas -1
Tennessee -34

Vanderbilt, LSU, Florida and Tennessee are the only ones who really did something that drastically shifted the preseason expectations in Week 1. And it will all shift a lot more over the next few weeks.

My guess would be Tennessee was getting some puff based on recruiting rankings or something. That fall seems drastic, even for them.

So if I understand correctly, this is completely useless until week four or five?

I don't think Bill Connenly knows what he's doing if his formula thinks Tennessee is this good.

I wouldn't say completely useless, but it's not 100% a measure of in-season performance until then, no.

It's worth looking at along with all the other ones, though.

Well they started at 129, so they've already jumped 10 spots. And Colorado State is a dumpster fire.

At first glance, looks legit.

But I'll take it.
