These are effectively one year contracts. You dole out the cash to land the recruit. If he's a bust, no NIL money in year 2.

Or maybe you bring in 2 QBs and whomever doesn't get the starting role immediately hits the transfer portal for another payday.

It will be no time before the rule about sitting a year will be legally challenged. And it too will lose in court. Then the entire NCAA is annual free agency.

Actually them being one year contracts makes sense because that's all athletic scholarships are.

Football is the ultimate team sport but unbalanced money and jealousy might be a big problem for some teams. Smart boosters will have to spread the wealth so that most players are happy.

Now, the offensive linemen better be getting a cut from Bryce.

You know, this is actually an interesting thought.

If a QB decided to give his lineman a cash "bonus," could he do it? Would he have to sponsor them in a separate NIL deal first, so it's above-board and reported, or does it even matter any more?

I also assume the linemen in this instance would have to claim it as income and potentially pay taxes on that and other benefits received.

Such a rabbit hole to go down with all of this stuff.

You'll get that post sorted out when Oregon Football is getting Tiger Woods' money and the state of Alabama's football programs are relegated to a reconstruction era budgets.

And yes, I see my error. I just hate a pedantic shitestain on a message board.

What’s a real shame about all this Is the linemen and less flashy positions will never get the hype to receive anything like this.

The biggest misconception going right now. I'm sure Phil Knight and Nike would look out for Oregon athletes with NIL. I think heard that Kayvon Thibodeaux at Oregon has a Nike NIL deal. But, Alabama football is internationally known. Alabama can pull NIL deals from all over the globe.

There was a post here a few weeks ago about a BBQ restaurant in Arkansas, I think, that sponsored their whole OL.

Pretty good idea. (I just hope they got free food.)

Not true at all. There's a big bubble right now for there's NIL's for relatively unknown players because its the first year and everyone getting them and giving them is getting tons of publicity. Once it wears off, its going to be a lot more of the well known players getting them and a lot less of the unknown players getting them.

Any player that is something like an all-american, heismen contender, etc. will likely have no problem getting paid.

Alabama brand is strong asf and he was the #1 player in the country

He will play with likely the most talented WR Corp and Oline in the country.

I hate to say it but if I had to bet on one SEC QB to be a heisman finalist it would be him

Basically what we're seeing is that you don't even need to be that guy, you just need people to think that you're that guy, leave high school ASAP, get paid a million dollars or more, and then it really doesn't matter what you do from there, unless you're actually really good.

These kids are going to start hiring hype men in middle school.

True. But, this is what we've seen for decades in baseball, tennis, and soccer.

Quinn Ewers is looking at high six figures and still has a year of high school left. The ukulele kid from Clemson is going to bank as well. Hell, a freshman LSU gymnast is looking at a million.

Its free market advertising/promotions. Deals are going to vary widely and often fail or succeed in spectacular fashion.

Wait until the Catholics or Bill Knight outbid Alabama. The institutions with large alumni bases and deep pockets are about to turn CFB into an all out bidding war.

How long before a significant number of athletes are clearing more than assistant coaches?

Where is college football without star players? We live in a CAPITALIST SOCIETY. They earn their worth by what they bring to the table, or what their potential is. I have absolutely no issue with it.

He has $800K in the pocket now. There are others he's considering that would put him over a million.
