Thoughts on Vanderbilt....

Last year, you couldn't keep Vanderbilt off the field. I watched the game and it was one of the craziest things I have ever seen. You knew the play that was coming (for the most part) and Bama just couldn't stop it.

Yes, scoring on every drive would help. It's possible, but it's probably not realistic. To beat Vanderbilt, you have to figure out a way to keep Pavia off the field. It's tougher than it looks.

That may be the most significant intangible for Vandy. They have a whole new attitude. Should be fun.

While the 5-0 is a great start, they’ve yet to play a good team. You could take the best players off the 5 teams they’ve beat, make a team out of them and they still wouldn’t have near the talent of Bama. I really don’t think this game is very close.

I would go as far as to call SC good, but they are a fair team. But Vandy got 2/3 of the game without Sellers which significantly impacted the outcome.

Not sure how the game plays out, but certain you will see Vandys best ball in the second half

24 yr old Pavia is the best QB Vandy has ever had.

Seeing this made me wonder about the history of Vandy QBs. Of course, some of these are comparing completely different games...listing the best QBs in Vandy History:

Bill Spears - 1925-27 - All-Southern Conference ('26, '27), All-American ('26, '27). College Football Hall of Fame (inducted 1962).

Jack Jenkins - 1941-42 - 10th overall pick in the 1943 NFL draft.

Bill Wade - 1950-51 - SEC MVP 1951. 2nd team All-American. 1st overall pick in the 1952 NFL draft. Later...2x All-Pro, NFL Champion (1963 pre-Superbowl), Named SEC Football Legend (1994).

Whit Taylor - 1980-81 - First Team All-SEC (1982), that season threw for 2,481 yards and 22 TDs. Named SEC Football Legend (2003).

Kurt Page - 1983-84. Led NCAA in Passing Attempts (493), Passing Completions (286) and #4 in Passing Yards (3,718).

Jay Cutler - 2002-05 - SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2005). First team All-SEC (2005). Played for 3 different NFL teams and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2008.

UGA has one of the worst pass rushes in the country. You are in for a rude awakening.

I'm not sure last year's stats are going to do you any good for this season. The main and most glaring reason is the QB and WR position. We have significantly upgraded at QB and WR. We now have a QB who isn't boom or bust and can methodically drive the team down the field. Secondly, we have one of the most talented WR groups in the country. UGA didn't have an answer for them and I don't see Vandy having one either. Somebody's going to be open all the time.

UGA had an answer for them in the second half. I guess we’ll see what happens this weekend. This isn’t last years Vanderbilt team either. Bama has more talent than Vandy. Hell, most teams in the SEC do, but Vandy plays hard. I picked this out as one of the three games Vandy will lose this year, but I think it’ll be fairly close. Probably about a 10 point game. Our pass D is lacking and that could make for a long day. Our d-line is pretty good so we’ll have to try and get pressure on the QB. It’s gonna take a couple of turnovers to give us a chance.

My biggest concern is bama’s offensive 2nd half slump against Georgia.

It may have more to do with Georgia's halftime adjustments than Alabama's failure to do so. Georgia's staff has always done an excellent job making the necessary adjustments post-halftime.

We can say what we want and rationalize all day, but the fact is is that if our guys don't show up ready to battle again for 4 full quarters, we absolutely can and will get beat. This Vandy team doesn't frick around. If our coaches and players don't know that at this point then they are absolute imbeciles. But I think that they get it now.

I just don't think your defense is as physically talented as UGA's. Granted, I could be totally wrong. I've only watched snippets of a few of y'alls games and y'alls defense has given up points to some less than stellar teams. But, we'll see Saturday, it should be a great atmosphere.

BAMA extended a drive because they had 2 #2s on the field that directly led to a TD for Vandy and two turnovers that led directly to TDs for Vandy last season and lost by 5.

BAMA's offense is much better this season than last. Especially at the qb position.

BAMA wins this game by at least 2 scores.

56-31 BAMA.

Utah State has one of the best offenses in the country. 14 of the 35 were given up by our reserves in mop up duty. Our offense has turned into more of an explosive play type offense instead of the ball control style from last year. We have a new offensive line and new faster receivers. Our RB room is very deep. Now, we could lose this game for sure. Bama is one of the best teams in the nation. This Vandy team has blow everyone out so it’s hard to say how they’ll react to a close game.

I think you missed my point. IMO, the bigger challenge is keeping Pavia off the field. They kept the ball for 40 minutes last year.

And I think you missed my point. It's not like we're not going to get the ball during this game. Last year our offense couldn't string together long drives because the offense was either boom or bust. Which even if we scored put Pavia on the field sooner. It's not like that this season. Our offense is able to put together long clock eating drives with the passing game. We did it against UGA. We use the passing game just like Vandy uses the running game, to eat up clock and keep the other team's offense off the field.

Last year our offense contributed to Vandy's offense being on the field so much. It won't this year.
