It was a backdoor, subtle grind...but still a grind. Gotta give ya credit on that one Bobby!

ETA: Maybe even a legit grind!

I think Meyer deserves the hype. People probably forget how dysfunctional the team was before he got there.

Florida was looking for a coach to realize the program's potential, and I'd say he met or exceeded expectations. People scoffed at the idea of his offense being successful in this leage, yet they were arguably the most dominant team in college football from 2006-2009. Many like to attribute that to Tebow, but his recruiting across the board was also top notch.

It was obvious in 2010 that he was burned out and that he probably should have resigned after 2009 if he was feeling that way. I'd compare their 2010 season to ours in 2008. The loss of key assistants, loss of senior leadership, and the vacancy at quarterback where Cam Newton should have been, had he not been dismissed. With all of those factors plus Meyer's health issues, their results in 2010 are not terribly surprising.

The end of Urban Meyer's reign in the SEC came when Alabama absolutely destroyed what he Meyer felt was his best team he fielded while at UF. That whole season there appeared to be signs that the conference had his offense figured out and were on the verge of being able to stop it and then BAM they face Bama and they get absolutely killed. Knowing that he would never have a QB as perfect for his system as Tebow again, I think Urban knew that his offense would be exploited by all of the better SEC defenses going forward. The party was over.

Urban is a good coach, however, much of his success at Florida was a product of the conference never facing anything like his offense before. Once he loses the absolute perfect QB to run his system and the conference was no longer fooled by it Florida loses 5 games. Then this season a team that he had basically put together to run his system loses 6 games (even if he were there they wouldn't have been much better, 8 wins tops). Pretty sure had he stayed another 5 years at Florida that there wouldn't be a person alive that proclaimed him to be the best coach in the country. However, I think that his offense will be successful in the Big 10 for a lot longer than it would have been at Florida. He will be able to field teams with the same high caliber athletes that he had at Florida and not have to face teams that have the speed on defense to compete with it.
