I might be convinced to give him a 4th depending on what teams he beats. Beating OM is a must if he goes below 7 wins IMO.

He will have his QB with experience and more practice. He’s had time with the portal, and even an initial recruiting class.

Realistically, we can’t pump out good teams season after season like Bama, so we only get a chance to evaluate at our peaks. I think next season or 4th year - if QB stays - is a good judgement season.

I get you. But I’d hardly consider year one a normal year.

And beating A&M and Barners on the road is worth a lot.

Yeah, we looked lost in the bowl game…
No excuse for that bowl game but that's a common theme in Leach's career.

He is who he’s always been.

No more. No less.

He usually has a breakout year in year 3 or 4. If you look at his record at other schools he is on pace. We easily could have won 9-10 games had we had a decent kicker.

We return almost everybody next year and I expect us to be a top 25 team. There is no reason to want to have him fired or for his seat to even be warm. We beat 4 ranked teams this year with a young team. We don’t need to fall into the trap that programs like Tennessee have and start firing coaches who don’t meet unrealistic expectations

So he can continue to own A&M?

His style of play is so different than anyone else's, that I don't see how you give him a fair hearing until he's got four recruiting classes under his belt - just to see how everything looks with a full roster of his own recruits.

He has done about like I expected. Disappointing 1st year, average 2nd. I think you guys will be very good in 22. Once Leach gets a QB it's on.

After next year, he will be out, and the return of Dan Mullins is imminent

Other than the Bama and bowl game we had a chance in every game played, his seat isn’t remotely warm.

Leach isn't bad. His offenses put up a lot of yards and can sometimes put up a lot of points (they tend to have some issues inside the red zone where the field condenses). The defense looked decent to good most of the year (that I saw anyway). I don't know anything about his recruiting. I was initially curious about how he would fit in with regards to culture, but it seems there aren't any real problems there. I also don't know if MSU can hire anyone that would do too much better there. The real issues are where and when he is currently coaching. Mississippi State is not exactly a football juggernaut. Added on to that, they play in a loaded SEC. In the west alone you have Alabama, 8&4feit, Arkansas (who seems to be good again), LSU (Kind of a wild card next year), and Ole Miss in just the west (yes I know Auburn is there too, but cant say I expect as much out of them next year as some other teams). Added on to this, many teams are using more nickel and dime defenses which helps limit the air raid. His teams aren't going to be shut out, but they can't realistically expect every game to turn into a boat race either. I think he's a coach that can steal some wins from (physically) better teams though.

Geez. Our fan base is horrible. No way we get rid of Leach unless he goes 2-10 and loses the team as well.

There are three coaches that we could legitimately hire:

Joe Judge, who just got fired by the Giants

Dan Mullen, who just got fired by Florida, might be willing to come back

Shane Beamer, who could be swayed since his wife is from Starkville and his father in law is the sheriff. It’s doubtful, but he’s the only sitting Power 5 coach that State would have any shot at.

We may be breaking in a new QB year 4. I want the assessment after an up year, not during a rebuild. If we have a lot of upperclassmen - including a QB year 4, then maybe I’ll wait.

You won’t be breaking in a new quarterback, unless a three year starter gets beaten out for the job.

He is y’all’s savior.

Where do you honestly think you can get 8-9 wins next year?

OOC schedule is easy so 4-0 there

SEC Schedule

LSU
aTm
Arkansas
Kentucky
Ala
Au
Georgia
Ole Miss

6-6 to 7-5 at best
