Some of us don’t have the luxury of watching videos at work. Please share what was said.

Good point. Please try to listen to it when you can. Great facts! Less than 10 minutes.

SUMMARY:

1. He recognizes Coronavirus is serious threat but data shows it is not a serious threat to college age athletes;

2. There should be flexibility with protocols for safety and change things as needed;

3. No athlete should lose scholarship if they choose to opt out;

4. Safer to have football because athletes will be in controlled environment with testing and accountability and medical personnel;

5. More dangerous not to have football. Mental health. Increased suicides. Substance abuse. Going home to multi-generational families who are at higher risk;

6. Huge financial loss to colleges which will mean fewer scholarships offered next year and years to come.

FANTASTIC VIDEO. I AGREE TOTALLY!!!

It's a serious threat to their elderly relatives they come in contact with.

Uhh, they won't be in a bubble, so no, they won't be in any more of a controlled environment than any other college student. They will still hit the bars and parties at frat houses.

Increased suicides. Substance abuse.

Is there that big of a suicide issue in college football? What about increased use of pain killers prescribed after injuries?

6. Huge financial loss to colleges

Now we're getting to the real motivation.

The summary does not do it justice. He answers everything you just raised but you have to listen to the 10 minute video to hear it.

He is right on!

Thanks for posting this. Klatt has always rubbed me the wrong way, but he nailed this.

I have a 23 year old, so I don't need to listen to 10 minutes of Joel Klatt blabbering about kids on a college campus being in a "controlled environment." Never underestimate the ability of a college kid to be stupid.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they shouldn't play. I'm saying that anyone with more brain cells than a head of cabbage knows you can't control college kids. Now can Saban do a batter job than most? Probably. How about Lane Kiffin? You get a half dozen kids going to a frat party on Saturday and being exposed and it will spread faster than it did on the Marlins' team flight. Then their season is over, and maybe everyone's.

So how can Saban do it “probably” better than everyone else??

You're new to SEC football?

I could educate you about Lane Kiffin's track record at maintaining discipline as an SEC head football coach, since you obviously were about 10 years old when he was at Tennessee, but I'll let you do your own research.

But then again, since you don't even know the diiference between "most" and "everyone", maybe you do need help.

You missed his point BamaGradinTn. He was saying to compare having the guys with no sports protocols and no testing and no medical personnel because they are on their own at school or home with those same guys having some structure with tests, accountability and medical personnel! It is a no brainer! Of course they would be better off playing football!

You missed his point probably because you are 23 and you graduated from Bama. Just sayin.

I get it.

But the Marlins had all that also...along with multimillion dollar salaries.
