Total number of SEC Football Championships (most recent year in parentheses):

28- Alabama (2020)
13- Georgia (2017)
13- Tennessee (1998)
12- LSU (2019)
8- Florida (2008)
8- Auburn (2013)
----
6- Ole Miss (1963)
2- Kentucky (1976)
1- Miss St. (1941)

**Vanderbilt and the 4 expansion teams have never won one.
**The Big 6 have won every SEC Title since 1977, and every SEC Title on the field since 1964 (Kentucky's '76 title was retroactive).

How long does it take for another team to break through, and which team does it first?

My guess: Oklahoma... but it will take 5 years or more after they finally get one.

That 2005 game hurt.

You really don’t understand why 1977 was used? Do you really think that is an “arbitrary number”? If you truly do, then what “number” (most people would say “year”) should have been used?

For any uninformed, the OP was referencing the fact that the 6 schools that are considered the Big 6 have won EVERY SEC football championship since 1977.

Seems pretty self explanatory...

I absolutely see the point. Do you not get that I was making fun of Georgia fans who say that 40 years is an arbitrary choice when talking about sports?

I'd think an Auburn fan would get it

Arbitrary number?

I would think a 44-year streak of the same six programs winning every single SEC Championship should be self-explanatory. Seems fairly significant.

No one cares about your retroactive SEC "title"

Georgia, who shared the 76 title as well, blew out Kentucky that year so I'm not even sure it counts.

No outright SEC winner outside the Big 6 since integration

Wait sec. You were just making fun of Georgia because we have not won a National Championship since 1980, but now you want to puff out your chest because you won an SEC Championship in 1976?

You be you.

Since '77 when the Big 6 streak began, outside of Alabama with a commanding lead in SEC Championships, its been remarkably close between the other five.... the other five all have between 5-8 titles each.

Titles Won Since 1977:

15- Alabama
8- Florida
7- Auburn
6- Georgia
6- LSU
5- Tennessee

It's so silly too. Kentucky "won" the SEC years after the fact because Moo St had to forfeit some wins from the 76 season. So that gave UK the same conference record as UGA.

They didn't even win it anyhow. It was retroactive because Miss St had to forfeit wins from 76 (and one of those wins was over UK).

2005 was one of about four or five games in the Les Miles era that would have really put us to even another level.
