There has never been a 3peat....

major college football national champion since the AP began selecting champions in 1936. One can get technical and say Minnesota with school recognized claims in 1934-35 and AP in 1936, but that will always be up to debate.
Alabama is way better than 2017 yet won it all. Their 2018 squad is heavily favored to repeat, which makes them a legit threat to do so in 2019.
Closest to 3 straight titles in the past? Well let’s take a look:
Notre Dame (1946-1949): national champs in 46 and 47; had a tie at the end of the 48 season finishing #2; national champs in 49; nearly a 4peat.
Oklahoma (1954-1956): combined record of 31-0. Back-to-Back NC in 55 and 56. Finished #3 in 1954 behind split NC Ohio State and UCLA.
Alabama (1964-1966): back-to-back in 64 and 65. We all know about the book that details 1966, and rightfully so.
Oklahoma (1973-1975): unbeaten in 1973 with several others receiving several NC selectors; back-to-back in 74 and 75.
Alabama (1977-1979): some could argue that Alabama deserved some recognition for 77 finishing #2 in both polls. Shared the title in 1978 and won it all in 1979.
Nebraska (1993-1995): Huskers lost late to FSU for the 93 NC. Back-to-Back in 94 and 95.
Southern California (2003-2005): won the 03 AP; 04 BCS was vacated but still won AP; lost the BCSNCG to Texas in 05.
Alabama (2015-2017): of the previous mentioned, this particular one didn’t have a repeat. But the way it happened had it seem like it was close to a 3peat - NC in 2015, lost NC in 2016, NC in 2017.
Alabama (2017-2019): could it happen? Perhaps it’s lame for creating such a topic since Alabama hasn’t even repeated, but the discussion is valid.

Let's wait and see how we finish 2018 before we start talking about a threepeat in 2019. We have looked unstoppable in our first three games, it's true, but it's a long season and anything can happen.

If they were to pull it off it would be a damn amazing feat.

Alabama came within the Prayer at Jordan-Hare of playing FSU for a chance at a threepeat in 2013. If Georgia had beaten Auburn, then the Kick Six would not really have mattered since Bama would have already clinched the West. Missouri was not beating that Bama team in the SECCG. Now, whether or not we could have beaten FSU I don't know - I don't think it would have been a particularly good matchup for us - but we would have had a shot.

Hey dude...........the Kick Six MATTERED.
And it always will...............and I hate Auburn too.

I mean, yeah, it did, because Auburn beat Georgia on a fluke, so the winner of the Iron Bowl that year also won the West. If Georgia had beaten Auburn, then Alabama would have gone into the Iron Bowl having already won the West. I'm not sure what's so difficult to grasp about that.

Alabama was basically 1 defensive stop away from a 3-peat

Alabama won the 2015 CFP; 2016 *Colley-Matrix national championship; & the 2017 CFP. (*Made popular by UCF)
On a side note, Bama is the only team to have won back to back AP national championships 3 times (64-65; 78-79; 2011-12).
2 other teams have won the AP back to back twice (Neb. & OU); and 4 others won the AP back to back once (ND; Army; USC; Minn)

Bama's been favored most every year, but something happens and they lose a game.

They've won one straight and lazy, moronic people are writing three peat articles.
shite..win two in a row then start this. Long season and Bama has beaten three bad teams. So..let's hold out

It wasn't only Sarkisian. The quarterback on that team bears some responsibility for that.

Or one sustained series. As we know all too well, Alabama's offense sustained drives more than 5 plays only twice. I think it was 9 times we went 3 and out.

Truth. 'Bama looks awesome now but will face staunch competition in the playoffs, assuming they get there. tOSU, Clemson could derail them for sure if they meet.

Bama vs Mizzou in '13 would have been a good game still, and I think a better matchup with a non mobile qb.
Not saying Mizzou would have won, but just stating no way Mizzou wins is disingenuous.

Pretty sure this is wrong. Auburn was undefeated and would have had the head to head tie breaker if they had beaten Alabama.

Auburn had already lost to LSU earlier in the year.
