The Vaunted UGA Defense

Looking at some statistics, it is interesting to see how UGA's defense did this season. They are the #2 scoring defense and #4 in ypg allowed(257 ypg). This is an amazing defense, right? Let's look a little closer:
Total Offensive Ranking of Opponents

Average 80.8
That is a ranking of 81 for their 11 FBS opponents, with more than half at 80th or above and not one team in the top 40.
How about Scoring Offenses?

Again, 6 teams worse than 85 in rankings, and 4 at 98 or worse, which was more than 1/3 of their schedule. Beast team is ND in scoring and Auburn was the second best offense they faced in scoring!
In the end, this is a very good defense, but the media lauding them is quite hilarious.
To give you a comparison, LSU faced on average th 63rd ranked total offense with 3 in the top 31 and 8/11 in the top 71. Only 3 teams above 71!
In scoring, LSU averaged facing the #62 ranked offense, wiht only 2 worse than the lowest 6 for UGA and one was shared (Vandy at 125).
This is why being a highly ranked defense and stating it is amazing is misleading. Similar reason tOSU has a very good defense, but they may be a bit overrated.

Nearly 20 spots higher isn't a big deal?
Point is that while UGA has a very good defense, it's stats are inflated by playing absolutely a garbage schedule when talking about opponent offensive firepower.

How is it nerves? I stated facts that show the type of competition UGA has faced. I am not afraid of UGA's defense. LSU is more dominant on offense than UGA is on defense, based on the schedules they've faced.
That said, UGA can win this game, but their offense will have to improve.

We were way more worried about Bama than Georgia. We are not in the least bit worried about Georgia. Our offense is gonna beat the frick out of your defense and our defense plays it’s best against pro style offenses.

They have no play makers on defense. Look a their individual stats, they have no one in the top ten in any category. As a team in the SEC they are 11th in total tackles (LSU 7th), 8th in sacks(LSU 4th), 13th in Ints (LSU 4th), They are 3rd in passes defended (LSU 1) and 6th in fumbles recovery's.
