quote:

Anyone who has kids they love would want their kids to take the full ride to the rival school, and that would be their favorite school for at least 4 years.

It would only be my favorite school when visiting my kid, and only if they weren't playing UT.

That being said, I'd pay for my kid to go anywhere he/she wanted to go, as long as I knew they weren't going to blow my money on a worthless degree.

Depends on who is the HC and the state of the program. If Shula or Dubose I would probably direct to rival if coach was better.

Speaking as a parent who is currently paying tuition for his child, absolutely take the full ride. I could live with four iron bowls wearing crimson while wearing my orange & blue for the rest of the year.

Just finished paying 4.5 years out of state. OP presented a scenario of easily affordable by the parent. What if it was your favorite/alma mater versus Harvard/Stanford type?

Tell the kid I'm not paying for anything... That's what student loans are for ... They'll choose the free ride at that point... The hell with rival colors... Green is the color that matters.

Full ride. I wouldn't let a petty rivalry get in the way of my child's success..plus he would have a better chance at starting/getting PT at the school that offered him a scholly.

Like most I would encourage my son or daughter to take the full ride. But I will never, ever wear orange and blue in any combination.

I haven't talked to my sister since she decided to go to State... She's a junior... I'm petty. DGAF

leave it up to your son or daughter to choose and support them in their choice without reservations.

your child should out-weigh your obsession with your team.

This will not be a problem at my house. I've raised my kids right, and they randomly say "I hate orange" on impulse.

This is an easy choice. Have the kid take the full ride. You win twice here. You don't have to pay for college and you're weakening your rival's program. Any kid that is talented enough to really make an impact would be offered a full ride to either school. Since your rival is offering a scholarship to a questionable talent like your kid, you weaken their program while saving tons of cash.
