The three best teams not to make Omaha in my lifetime.

Dear Diary,
1. 1989 Texas A&M
Ben McDonald pitched his tail off and the LSU Tigers came back and won the College Station Regional. At season’s end aTm was ranked #2 in the polls despite not making Omaha. I believe the only time that’s ever happened.
2. 2021 Arkansas
The Hawgs won every SEC series as well as the SEC Tourney last season. They ran into a white hot NC State team that should have played MSU for the 2021 college baseball title but some players on their team got the Chinese bat flu and they had to forfeit.
3. 2000 South Carolina
Winners of 56 games with an absolutely loaded roster the Gamecocks got backdoored in their home Super Regional by a really good UL Lafayette team that went on to make some noise in Omaha the following week.

Agreed OP. Great post and it’s been overlooked by the board.
This Tennessee team was very overrated by many in the media. Maybe due to their bravado/brashness. 2 freshmen and 1 sophomore in the weekend rotation, none had made SEC starts before the season.
They should be much improved next season but I was shocked a group as outmatched as this one was most nights was even able to make it to the Supers, much less run away with the SEC. They were certainly playing with house money this weekend. Huge credit to Tony for even making it to the Supers and I think the OP illustrates that.
Tony would tell you he thought the 2023 team was going to be the year the VOLS would have a chance to make some real noise with 3 experienced starters and much more talented bats.

I'd nominate the 2005 Ole Miss Rebels, who played in a home Super against Texas and were a national seed. OM won the first game, then lost the last two. OM was the last team to beat Texas that year, who went on to win the CWS without a loss. The committee chose that year not to award Texas a national seed, but they should have done so. Augie Garrido, himself, said that he thought the National Championship was won that year not in Omaha, but in Oxford.

This means nothing when you fail to make Omaha while several other SEC teams make it. LSU isn’t remembered for winning the SEC in 2011. They’re remembered for losing to Bama in the title just like y’all will be remembered for losing to ND and failing to make Omaha.

2000 South Carolina
so would 2000 ULL that won the Columbia SR.

2013 Vandy has to be up there. They went 26-3 in conference play
Dan McDonnell and Louisville went into Nashville and ended their season. And I’ve wanted him in Oxford ever since

Certainly agree. I was just saying I never expected to make it anywhere near Omaha with a team like this one. Probably the 8th-9th most talented team in the league from a position player standpoint and extremely talented, but green arms. They should be much better next year.
The OP was just trying to highlight how great a job Tony did this year to even make it as far as he did.

They actually are. No one actually takes that Bama *rematch championship seriously. If it were the playoffs, sure.. but in BCS era it was a joke.

LSU fans are still melting over it even after a decade and winning a national championship since then

Don't really blame them.
