Replicate the FCS model. 24 teams, top 8 get a bye. No one will opt-out of a playoff game.

Unranked teams aren’t deserving of a postseason game anyway. To help compensate for the new games, you could cancel the FCS cupcake game everyone plays.

If the SEC keeps it up, they'll be only one real conference of 24 teams soon anyway.

Gross.

Go back to BCS (maybe a 2-3 play in)and go to a 4 year rule for NFL and all problems resolved.

The only solution to early opt-outs is to NOT play in meaningless Bowl games.

That applies to only 4 teams under the current system.

What's funny to me is that this older generation loves to complain about "participation trophies".

But then gets mad when current players don't value the bowl "participation trophies". The way they did.

This is the only way to solve this issue. Eliminate the bowls and set up the playoffs.

Or we could just do away with these meaningless bowl games. This idea that it actually helps teams to continue to practice after an already long season is pure fiction.

This won't work. Sooner or later a star player will opt out of a playoff game and people will be defending it as a brave choice to protect his body, his brand, and his future.

Yep. Lets have less football so that we can bitch in the off season about how we can't wait for football season.

Bowls aren't meaningless. Just because some players value their career prospects over lower bowls doesn't mean they're meaningless. It's not a binary.

And just because some fans have lower attention spans than my four year old also doesn't mean the bowls are meaningless.

This is a solution without a problem.

16 teams

To 8 seeds get home games for the first round

Next 4 games go to neutral sites (ATL, Dallas, Miami, Pasadena, Tempe, New Orleans)

Then the next 2 to the sites above that did not get quarter final games

Final game goes all over the US like the Super bowl

Maybe have like ten to twelve bowl games for the next 20 or so teams in the FBS.

Not sure what you mean by "helping
teams" but coaches sure as heck like the extra practice and bowl prep.Players may not like it but it gives coaches an extra look and time to evaluate younger players.

Doubt you'll find any coaches who don't wanna have the extra practices and go bowling.

The bowl sponsors are going to need to give NIL money to have key players play in them.
For example, have some Clemson players pimp some Cheez its in some ads in exchange to guarantee to play.
I know that's technically illegal of pay for play, but who are we fooling with NIL?

Just drop all the bowl games. Why do they even exist. No other sports leagues has practice games at the end. If Tom Brady misses the playoff, the nfl doesn’t throw him into a jolly rancher bowl. He takes his arse home and tries again next season. If you don’t mAke the playoff, take your arse home

But you think a team that has lost 4-5 games over a 12 game season is deserving? FOH

Because folks watch em,most players enjoy going and coaches like the extra 3 weeks of practice /evaluation and bowls have been a college tradition for close to 100 years.

No idea why they seem to bother you.

Until the Networks can't get sponsors to make the game profitable to them then Bowl games will happen. Fans actually coming to the games makes it look better on TV.

Opt-outs are just as much part of the bowl games as injuries so get over it.

For the players it is about the money and the school is 2nd or 3rd so get over that as well.
