Since 2013, two annual rivalry games have dominated the TV ratings when it comes to SEC football:
Alabama vs. Auburn
Alabama vs. LSU
Of the Top 15 regular season games to air on TV featuring two SEC teams, 12 of the 15 have been from one of these two rivalries.
In 7 regular season games since 2013, Alabama vs. LSU has averaged 11.05 million viewers in each telecast.
In 6 games sine 2013, Alabama vs. Auburn has averaged 11.27 million viewers in each telecast.... making the Iron Bowl slightly more popular in terms of TV viewership.
This season's Iron Bowl needs to bring in at least 9.8 million viewers in order to keep the Iron Bowl ahead in average viewership since 2013.... which is very doable, however it has to be a competitive game to garner that number.
Here are the Top 15 Regular Season SEC games in Total Viewership Since 2013 (all feature Alabama):
In millions of viewers...
16.64- 2019 LSU at Alabama
13.78- 2013 Alabama at Auburn
13.66- 2017 Alabama at Auburn
13.59- 2013 Alabama at Texas A&M
13.53- 2014 Auburn at Alabama
11.90- 2013 LSU at Alabama
11.54- 2018 Alabama at LSU
11.06- 2015 LSU at Alabama
10.39- 2016 Alabama at LSU
10.27- 2014 Miss St. at Alabama
9.30- 2015 Alabama at Auburn
9.13- 2018 Auburn at Alabama
9.11- 2014 Alabama at LSU
8.46- 2016 Texas A&M at Alabama
8.24- 2016 Auburn at Alabama
*The only Alabama vs. Auburn or Alabama vs. LSU game not to make this Top 15 list was the 2017 LSU at Alabama game that only managed 6.73 million viewers (32nd most watched of all SEC regular season games since 2013).

Kinda makes sense the REC helps Bama...they are the golden goose.

In related news, millions of Alabama fans derive their self-worth from the actions of 18-22 year old boys playing a game.

This number... which is good for the 5th highest rated regular season SEC game since 2013... is the one that jumps off the charts to me.... because it aired on ESPN and not CBS.
Of all the most watched regular season games since 2013, 16 of the Top 17 aired on CBS.... also 22 of the Top 24.
The 2014 Iron Bowl aired on ESPN and managed 13.53 million viewers.... that has to be ESPN's best number for a regular season game in years.... I would love to see how far back that record would hold. The Ole Miss at Alabama 2015 game is the next highest rated SEC game on ESPN, and it managed 7.61 million. So the 2014 Iron Bowl nearly doubles that one.

Nevermind. I just googled it. That 2014 Iron Bowl is an all-time record for a regular season game on ESPN.
The second highest rated regular season game ever to air on ESPN was in 2009, USC at Ohio State. It brought in 10.6 million viewers. So the 2014 Iron Bowl destroyed that by nearly 3 million.
What a colossal error for CBS to run out of Bama picks that year and have to pick the Egg Bowl instead.

The REC is the Red Elephant Club, literally an Alabama booster club. Who else would they "help"?

Less than 5 million people live in the state of Alabama. It would appear Murph, you dumb son of a bitch, that millions of Alabama haters tune in each saturday in hopes that they might get to witness big bad bama lose a game.

kinda lets you understand why Alabama commands so much respect from ESPN and CBS. They are the money maker for the SEC
Posted on 11/26/19 at 3:40 pm to BHMKyle
Why do we even have an SEC East.
Posted on 11/26/19 at 3:44 pm to mckibaj
I meant the SEC helps the REC. Worded poorly

What’s significant about 2013?
Posted on 11/26/19 at 4:10 pm to BHMKyle
As if it needed to be stated, but the SEC west IS college football

The Egg Bowl that year wasn't bad though.
#4 MSU w/ Dak vs #19 Ole Miss w/ Bo Wallace and Evan Engram.
shite, both teams had been ranked in the Top 4 of the CFP at one point that season.
But the Egg Bowl doesn't get the same TV draw as the IB.
