I think I rooted for Tennessee against Ohio State many years ago in a bowl game, probably the Citrus
But rooted for Florida State in the BCS Title game the last time ya'll made it that far.

I appreciate an actual answer to this but I wonder if this is just what everyone expects to be the case when in fact there has been a shift in dynamics preventing us from being a powerhouse

I don't think Tennessee is any more incapable of returning to glory than Alabama was. I just think you need to get the right mixture of circumstances and factors on your side.

First, see how Dooley does this year. This year could be much better for y'all. My Vol family members and I talked about this earlier tonight. He's brought in some really good recruiting classes, and they're more experienced now. It takes time to build something.
Recruiting and competition are only going to get tougher, true. But Tennessee has great resources and a strong fanbase. If this ends up being Dooley's last year, the next coach needs to be a good one, and have a long tenure. Having a revolving door on coaches is bad for the program.
I think y'all are suffering from the past few years' turmoil. That won't last forever, and all teams have bad years from time to time. Get that settled down, and you'll come back.

It does kind of sum it up nicely.

I think it's some heavy-arse karma from Phatlock. Now that he's off raiding Krispy Kreme full time instead of coaching football, some of that bad juju is bound to equalize.

That's probably true. I guess just call it natural pessimism but I don't see us hiring the right coach at the right time to do that. This is based on the idea (IMO) we can't just go out and get whatever coach we want.

I think that you can. It's going to take a long time (assuming a lot of losing seasons, which isn't even a given), for instance, for Tennessee to get knocked out of the top ten lists for both AP ranking and all-time wins.
No matter how much people may not want to admit it to themselves, the name "Tennessee" still has cachet. You guys just need to dust it off and polish it up.

But Tennessee has great resources
Not to sum up your post from 1 sentence but I really don't think we do. We have good resources located in other states that are becoming increasingly hard to poach.

And this is the opinion of most bama fans and I can't really blame them except to say get over it

Oh, I've been over it. You guys have lost long enough for it to be water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. It's time for you guys to get off your asses and start winning 10+ again so that our rivalry can take center stage again, like God intended it fricking to.

Hope you find a reason to fire Dooley then pray you knock the next hire out of the park. If you do, you'll be good again.
