re: The problem isn’t NIL. The problem is no forced player commitment to teams

But the difference is we don't use NIL for actual endorsements in college football.
Sure we do. I see ole Miss players all the time tagged in endorsements.
If you know of anyone or school involved in a a pay for play, then the NCAA compliance website isn’t hard to find.

What? Are you slow? Endorsements can be had anywhere for (almost) any reason. An endorsement doesn’t void a contract. These aren’t even in the same category.
You’re so close to figuring it all out. Even if accidentally….

When you have to pay them and kiss their azz to get them to sign with you, then expect to have to continue to do both to retain them.

Sigh.
Explain it then Sherlock. Tell me how true contracts being signed by players forcing them to commit for at least 2 years is overridden by endorsements that allow them out of the contracts.

Nope. You went the wrong way.
You were so close to learning what NIL is. So close.

Yep. Put your money where your bitching is.
If you don’t like it, then stop giving them money. It’s simple.

It didn’t go over my head. I have no problem with the way things are right now, because even though I am pushing 70 I am not an old-fart fan in my mindset bound to traditions … and having been a sports writer who covered SEC football for 20+ years I saw the seamy side of the game that preserved the illusions fans cling to … and I expect my team to play the game the way it is now. I have no problem with players being equal partners in this stuff.
Another dirty little secret: A whopping bunch of them had zero commitment or loyalty to schools and saw college ball as just a box they had to check to get to the NFL, and especially despised having to interact with fans (I listened to a starting QB in the SEC grouse about that for 30 minutes in an off the record bull session) , 40 years ago. It’s not a new mindset. They just couldn’t do anything about it, but they finally got it into court and the inevitable happened.

Damn you’re a salty little bitch on this Saturday.
You would think someone that wants to talk that kind of shite would have either beaten us or finished higher than us in the standings this season.

I personally think the NCAA caved on the NIL because they knew they couldn't stop it....it was coming. But undoing the transfer rule and allowing unlimited was their way to sticking it to college football and letting kayos reign.
Teams could manager unlimited transfers or NIL...either or, but not both.
If it was just transfers teams prob have some player movement...but it would prob be 1/3 of what it is now.
if it was just NIL...teams could easily pay every one a structured amount based on whatever armaments they made with their team.

College football to some of these people is just like Disneyland to kids. It’s a magical land of make believe and the shroud has now been removed to reveal what it has always been……a big money grab.
At least it’s now in the open for all to see.

This aspect will definitely prevent dynasties from probably ever occurring again
But outside of Alabama, what football program would anyone say has had a dynasty level performance over the last several decades? Without Saban that doesn’t happen either

The transfer portal(as it is) is a direct effect of the NIL. They’re tied together. And the NCAA had no saying in either decisions.

This plus infinity.
It’s like they think something that they literally had a personal ownership stake in has been taken away from them.
Another dirty little secret: They never had that stake. It was an illusion.

In the NFL, players are locked into rookie contracts.
The solution is going to be formation of unions then the union leaders agree to locked in contacts for 2 years, then can either renew 2 year contracts or transfer. Player should also be allowed to negotiate extensions if they want after first year if they over perform.

This plus double infinity.
I mean, there are actually people with functioning brains who think a single “college football commissioner” would come in and put all this stuff right?
That person would say “Yes sir” to the federal courts just like everyone else has.

“It’s all being run by rich boosters!”
*flashback to literally every decade before this* - rich boosters(good ol’ boys) on the golf course with the athletic director and coach.

It is amazing how you see this play out in so many areas.
"There's a great reset where they're making us take a worse deal with lower quality of life"
Yeah, buddy, that was called the end of the Bretton Woods Agreement, the oil shock, and stagflation that followed it. That started 50 years ago...

Different topic but I laugh at people saying “Bring back the BCS” like anyone is listening to them. The seeding was a cluster this year and that will be fixed, but the thing is a TV show that is going to 16 teams sooner than later and when that happens conference championship games will by necessity go away.

No CCGs would fix the big issue with the playoff scheduling: NFL counterprogramming for the first round.
No CCGs, means Army-Navy first week of December. First round second week of December (last week NFL cannot broadcast on Friday or Saturday unless they want to go out of country). If they moved the season up a week, they could have home games for the first and second round with no NFL competition the first two weekends of December, semis on NYD/NYE, CFPCG the Monday after week 18 NFL.
