Nothing OBVIOUS about a declining Bama! You did say NEW BLUE BLOODS or ELITE
Bama is no longer Elite —

Super-Elite = 1. LSU
Potential to win 3+ NCs in next 5 yrs
Simply Elite (2):
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
Potential to compete in NC games next 5 yrs and possibly win 1 NC

5. Florida
6. Oklahoma

8. Alabama
9. Auburn
10. Penn St

Nobody gives a shite about who did what in football prior to the 80s at best.
What Alabama did before the 80s is why we fired Shula - much to the media's horror - and went after an A-lister who could win at a high level. It was our desire to get back to those days that we took the leap of faith that we did.

The "Blue Blood" status wasn't created until the 60s and 70s with the advent of sports television
What? So now you get to arbitrarily get to
choose when blue blood status was created?
LMFAO!Are you 10 years old? Talk about moving the goal post...

Tennessee didn't win its first poll national championship until 1951.
Don't be an idiot. They had multiple undefeated and conference champions through the 50's nobody had more SECC's or
wins in that time period. As a matter of fact no school had more wins from 1927 to 2007.
quote:
Michigan didn't win one but they were constantly in contention during the 70s.
Who cares? NC's either matter or they don't.

“New Blue Blood” is the equivalent of saying the “40 year anniversary 1980 defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs.” It just doesn’t fit.

LSU is one 2009 championship game from flipping the script.
since 2000 they have best winning % and most wins in the SEC! Would have been ties with bama with 4 titles a piece. ugghhhh

There is nothing arbitrary about it. I assume you're older than me by the way you're talking, so I challenge you to find an article or radio broadcast from the 40s or the 50s talking about the "blue bloods" of that particular era. If you can I will shut up, if you can't, then your opinion on this matter is just as valid as mine. I personally believe that the blue bloods of today are blue bloods largely due to the national exposure they got over a 20-year period.

Thank you for reinforcing my point. That 20-year period where they kinda dropped off is the period in which I was talking about in my OP. They were dominant under Robert Neyland and were arguably the best program in the South by 1960 or so. That had all changed by 1980. In that 20-year gap, Alabama was dominant and thus always on national TV. The only times Tennessee would appear on television is when they were playing Alabama.

NCs matter but they are not the end all, be all. If they were, Miami would be considered a blue blood because they have just as many as Nebraska does. It also comes down to wins, win percentage, bowl appearances, conference championships, etc.

Even if we go back a half-century, based largely on consistency, winning seasons, conference and national titles, I'd have (in no particular order):
Oklahoma
Ohio State
Southern Cal
alabama
Nebraska
Texas
Georgia
Miami
Notre Dame
LSU
Then:
Auburn
Florida State
Clemson
Florida
Tennessee
Penn State
Washington
Michigan
UCLA
Boise State
Va.Tech
Wisconsin
West Va.
Oregon
Colorado
Mich. State
Stanford
Iowa
Pittsburgh
Texas A&M
Oklahoma State
Arizona State
BYU
Arkansas
TCU
Oklahoma
Ohio State
Southern Cal
alabama
Nebraska
Texas
Georgia
Miami
Notre Dame
LSU
Then:
Auburn
Florida State
Clemson
Florida
Tennessee
Penn State
Washington
Michigan
UCLA
Boise State
Va.Tech
Wisconsin
West Va.
Oregon
Colorado
Mich. State
Stanford
Iowa
Pittsburgh
Texas A&M
Oklahoma State
Arizona State
BYU
Arkansas
TCU

Good lord, are you really dying on this nomenclature hill? Who exactly heads up the "blue blood" committee? Who is the commissioner? Who was the founder? Geez
So there was no discussion of all time dominant programs during the 50's? Who knew?
Are you the official keeper of records for the CFB blue blood society?
quote:

Okay? This board can't even decide what a blue blood is it's qualifications

Tennessee had the most wins in CFB from 1927 to 2007 and are top 10 in P5 wins and I really don't GAS about your arbitrary definitions and "20 year periods"

What? OF COURSE IT IS...if want the definition I can get it to you.

Oklahoma won a national title in the first year of this timeline, and they've been to 4 playoffs and basically been dominated in 3 of them and have yet to win a single playoff game.
Which is why this

doesn't matter a single iota. Is TCU > Auburn because they have a higher winning percentage? Nope.
