The LSU vs Florida game is worth saving when the SEC expands

It may not have the tradition of the TSIO or DSOR or a catchy acronym (someone get to work on that) but it has more than delivered in memorable games and memorable moments.
Just a few:
The taming of the shoe
Hurricane game
Tebow Jump pass
Tebow asking LSU fans to call him
5 for 5 on 4th down
Matt Elam telling ODB to go to sleep
Brad Wing telling the Florida defense to come at me bro
Les Miles with his fake kicks (yes plural)
It goes on and on. This rivalry was not forced when the SEC first expanded in 1992, we have played every year since 1953 other than '68, '69 & '70. If anyone know why we didn't play those 3 year please chime in. it's kind of weird.
But isn't everything about this rivalry weird? We are probably the 2 weirdest fan bases in the conference as well, not including the Texas schools. Just a couple of schools from melting pot states trying to fit in with all the good ol baws.
Anyway just my $.02 on this game that is part of the greatness of the SEC.
Now let's talk some shite Tigahs! This Yankee school is coming to kick your arse for everyone in the South who hates dirty arse Yankee bootlicker Bill Sherman.
You are welcome Georgia.

Don't need to read any of that. I do NOT want to lose that game. It's my favorite game every year.

It is a fantastic series with so many great games. Going to hate to lose it yearly

It's really turned into a great series in all 3 sports. I don't know if it's an actual rivalry or not. But, we've had some good stuff in all 3 sports from these teams in the last decade or so.

100% yes. This came has been Must See TV for years. It's one game I watch every year and it rarely disappoints.

I would like to preserve both the Auburn and Florida rivalries but I know that's too much to ask. I just hope that with pod schedules we can still play relatively frequently and perhaps keep one of them permanent. It'd break my heart if we started only playing Florida and Auburn once every 7 years or some stupid shite, I already wish we could play the other SECE teams more often, we shouldn't have to go 6 years in between matchups and 12 years between visiting stadiums.

LSU vs Florida and Auburn always delivers some type of frickery. The fact Les was here for 10 years just added to it.
If LSU and Florida were playing each other in chess I would watch just knowing that something crazy is gonna happen.

It’s always a great game with some crazy stuff. My favorite game yearly is LSU Florida. Its just a game that delivers. It’s going to be a sad day when it’s not there. Both stadiums are electric

Yeah, that is kinda weird.
I guess the powers that be decided LSU needed to play Auburn as that sorta coincides with LSU playing Auburn again from '69 thru '73.
LSU's semi-permanent schedule back then (in no particular order) back then was:
State
Ole Miss
Bama
Florida
Kentucky
Tulane would have been a conference game until they left in 1965.
LSU also regularly played A&M in Baton Rouge thru 1975 and then the series resumed in the mid 80s with home and homes until LSU backed out in the mid 90s.
Here's one explanation for what happened in 1968 per Wikipedia:
quote:
The games vs. TCU and Tulane were designated as conference games by the SEC, since LSU had only four conference opponents on its schedule. Under SEC rules at the time, teams had to play a minimum of six conference games to be eligible for the championship. This rule was repealed in 1969, but reinstated in 1972.
That is wild that LSU was allowed to claim TCU and Tulane as conference games in 1968. Didn't make any difference in the standings though.
LSU had only 5 conference games in 1969 and in 1970. LSU went 5-0 in the SEC in 1970 and it was Cholly Mac's only conference title.
Conference schedules were just weird back then. More of a confederation than a conference. Some teams played 7 games, some played 5.

Before the lawyers ran everything and there were probably a lot more backroom deals struck over bourbon and cigars.
At least that is what the nostalgic side of me wants to believe.

It's a fun rivalry. Will be a light crowd this year with the LSU season going down the drain and the early kickoff.

Should be a keeper imo. The Florida fans who come to BR are usually decent. The ones in Gainesville are trashy af but funny as hell to watch. Actually my favorite rivalry game. I like it much more than the forced one with the Hogs.

Hince why there's so many "must play annually" games for the SEC to keep when expanding.
