As good as this NCAA tournament has been, there have been some blowouts: 11 games have been decided by at least 20 points. SEC schools have been on both ends of the blowouts, with Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas A&M as the good and Alabama and Auburn as the bad.

And chances are, there will be a blowout (or two or three) during the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games this weekend.

There also were numerous blowouts during conference play during 2017 football season, with 27 SEC games decided by at least 20 points, including 13 decided by at least 30 and two of those decided by at least 50.

Along with the game blowouts, some one-sided “rivalry” streaks continued as well. And we use “rivalry” a bit loosely because if one team dominates another for a decade, is it really a rivalry?

Here’s a look at the eight longest current winning streaks in SEC series.

Note: We did not take into account vacated/forfeited games because once a game is played and a score is written down, that score remains forever, despite what the NCAA might say.

quote:

T-7. Georgia over Kentucky

LENGTH: 8 in a row.
ANNUAL SERIES: Yes. The teams meet November 3 in Lexington.
THE SKINNY: The Bulldogs also have won 19 of the past 21 in the series. In those 21 games, Georgia has scored at least 40 points 10 times and at least 27 15 times. UK’s last win in the series came in 2009 in Athens. The schools first met in 1939 and Georgia has dominated, with a 57-12-2 record against the Wildcats.

quote:

T-7. Auburn over South Carolina

LENGTH: 8 in a row.
ANNUAL SERIES: No. The teams do not meet this season.
THE SKINNY: The eight-game streak covers 1996-2014, and those are the only eight meetings between the teams since South Carolina joined the SEC in 1992. Before that, the last meeting had come in 1933. Two of the wins came in 2010, when Auburn won 35-27 during the regular season, then 56-17 in the SEC championship game.

quote:

6. South Carolina over Vanderbilt

LENGTH: 9 in a row.
ANNUAL SERIES: Yes. The teams meet September 22 in Nashville
THE SKINNY: The teams have met every season since the Gamecocks joined the SEC in 1992, and South Carolina owns a 22-4 advantage. Vandy’s most recent win came in 2008.

quote:

5. Alabama over Mississippi State

LENGTH: 10 in a row.
ANNUAL SERIES: Yes. The team meet November 10 in Tuscaloosa.
THE SKINNY: The current streak pales in comparison to Alabama’s 22 wins in a row over the Bulldogs from 1958-79. The most recent Mississippi State win over the Tide came in 2007. As for the current streak, the Bulldogs have scored more than seven points just three times during the 10 seasons.

quote:

T-3. Alabama over Arkansas

LENGTH: 11 in a row.
ANNUAL SERIES: Yes. The teams meet October 6 in Fayetteville.
THE SKINNY: Arkansas’ most recent win in the series came in 2006, by one point. That was the last year of the Mike Shula era, and Nick Saban took over in ’07. Interestingly, that 2006 win ended a 12-season stretch in which Arkansas went 7-5 against Alabama. During the current streak, the Hogs have scored more than 20 points just twice.

quote:

T-3. Alabama over Tennessee

LENGTH: 11 in a row
ANNUAL SERIES: Yes. The teams meet October 20 in Knoxville.
THE SKINNY: The Tide also won 11 in a row in the series from 1971-81; the Vols won seven in a row from 1995-2001. Just two games during the current streak have been decided by fewer than 14 points and eight have been decided by at least 20.

quote:

2. Alabama over Vanderbilt

LENGTH: 22 in a row.
ANNUAL SERIES: No. The teams do not play this season.
THE SKINNY: This was an annual series from 1953-2002, but the teams have met just four times since, with the last matchup last season. The last time Vandy beat the Tide? It was 1984 – and that win snapped the Tide’s 14-game winning streak in the series.

quote:

1. Florida over Kentucky

LENGTH: 31 in a row.
ANNUAL SERIES: Yes. The teams meet September 8 in Gainesville.
THE SKINNY: It’s the longest series winning streak in SEC history and the fourth-longest in an annual series in NCAA history; the longer ones: Notre Dame 43 in a row over Navy (1964-2006), Nebraska 36 in a row over Kansas (1969-2004) and Oklahoma 32 in a row over Kansas State (1937-68). Not only have the Gators won 31 in a row over the Wildcats, they also have won 37 of the past 38 meetings in the annual series. Kentucky’s last win in the series came in 1986.

Maybe one day I will live to tell my kids about how Kentucky defeated Florida that one year back when.

That one year UK had a white receiver (can't remember if it was D Abney or someone before him) circa 2002ish that had like 3 TDs against UF, I thought that was gonna be the year but they lost in the final minutes.

I'll tell my kids how impressive Mississippi State was in 2018 to make the final four in the NIT

UK should have won this year. Gave up two TDs by just not even sending someone out to cover a receiver, iirc.

Hell I thought they had it last year but then they left a receiver uncovered. Twice.

Mullen is only 8 and 1 vs UK, so they have a chance.

Everyone was quick to crown Mullen the greatest coach in State’s history, but last time I checked, Sly Croom has more wins over Saban than the hunchback. Just sayin...
