Bo knows Diving
Great story...
Bo is without a doubt my favorite athlete of all time

"Oh yeah, the story that you're talking about is essentially true," former Auburn dive coach Rick Theobald told me over the phone. "All the divers who were there at the time, they still talk about it whenever we have a reunion."

"He was probably about 220 and the amount of muscle on him -- it was a ridiculous amount for one person," Theobald recalled. "... When I was coaching Auburn, the largest guy I had was a guy named Mike Smith. He was 5-foot-10, 5-foot-11 and probably weighed about 170 pounds. A solid rock stomp of muscle. The NCAA champion Jose Roach was about 150 pounds and he was 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8. The other guys in the pool who I think were there probably weighed about 130?"
Bo had about 100 pounds on the average diver.
As Auburn's most famous alum walked out to the edge of the board, the divers were eager to see him, but honestly, not expecting too much. I mean, had Bo ever tried this before? Was this his first time? A giant professional football and baseball player ... diving?
"Let's just say there was a healthy dose of skepticism floating around the pool," Theobald said.
Bo proceeded to the end of the plank and, as Theobald recalled, jumped into the air about a foot higher than most divers would -- maybe 3 1/2 or four feet. A "ginormous hurdle." It was a bit out of control.
But when he came back down on the board to execute his dive, he had settled his body. Then, came a sight Theobald had never seen before in his decades of coaching at a competitive level.
"I was the most shocked I'd ever been by watching a non-diver," Theobald told me. "He hit the end of the board and bent it all the way downward where the tip of the board went in the water. Probably six inches. He was in the water up to his ankles."
Bo shot back out of the pool and flew up into the air, doing a 2 1/2 tuck. Two full front flips! And he landed in a dive! Basically this, but from a bouncing board lower to the water.

I was at the 1986 Cotton Bowl. Auburn, 1st and goal at the Aggie 6, 4th quarter. 4 straight runs by the Jackson were stuffed by the Aggie defense. Great game.

Amazing ball player, it's a shame injury kept him from doing much in pro sports. Always wonder what he could have done in baseball if he never played football.

Yeah it took a few of us to bring him down.
Very cool, OP.
A legend.

Not sure how much Bo knows diving but he understood and excelled at almost everything else that requires a ball. Greatest athlete I've seen.

Greatest athlete of all time in any sport. Haters gonna hate.

With the slllllight exception of winning the MVP in the MLB All-Star game and making NFL all-pro in the SAME frickING YEAR. But yeah, I mean other than that...

So his best moment in baseball was in an exhibition game, wonderful. He was picked All-Pro in the NFL after rushing for only 698 yards, a pretty ridiculous selection.
Baseball - career .250 hitter, .784 OPS.
Football - career 2,782 yards in four years (that's a couple hundred less than Leonard Fournette for example)
To claim that Bo had a real successful pro career is to ignore the numbers. Injury didn't let it happen.

Throwing Harold Reynolds out at the plate from the warning track is prolly still the best throw I've ever seen. Laser, never hit the ground.

He's definitely one of the best, but there are too many amazing athletes to just hand something the title of "greatest athlete of all time in any sport" to him like that. He's definitely in the discussion. Bo was so amazing no one can deny it. Would of loved to have seen what he would have accomplished without the hip injury.

Keep in mind he only played 8 games of the NFL season so 2781 yards in 2 seasons worth of playing time
