With football season just a few weeks away, there is something I hear from fans all around.
When college game day is going on, I see everyone praying Lee Corso does not pick their team....well because if he does that means your team will likely lose....
Do you believe in the Lee Corso curse?

This was a pretty easy google:

quote:

While some may rely on Corso for last-minute betting advice, others just want to see how creative he gets with each different headgear. But it’s proven to be a pretty accurate picking method, as he’s 196-103 all-time.

Keep in mind he's usually at one of, if not the, biggest games of the day between 2 highly ranked teams. So the pick is essentially a 50/50 shot most of the time anyway. Getting it wrong doens't necessairly make him peej, and as mentioned he's right far more often than not.

The "curse" came from one bad season.

Picking one of the top games of the day with 65% accuracy is pretty dang good.

Think about it this way, if you were able to bet $10,000 on all of his picks over the years, you'd be close to a millionaire riding the Corso curse.

I see the stats. I am just curious about personal opinions. I hear a mix from people of how they feel about it.

He’s picked Alabama more than anyone else. There’s not some curse. He’s right sometimes and wrong sometimes.

Regular season yes...in national championship games, not so much. If memory serves me correct, he's only picked Bama twice in those and has only gotten one game right...

Corso picked:

1992 - Miami-FL
2009 - Texas
2011 - LSU
2012 - Notre Dame
2015 - Clemson
2016 - Bama
2017 - Bama

Don't even like the guy (always mute the TV or change channels when he's on).

I just feel bad for the guy these days. Ever since his stroke, he has not been cerebral at all. He only sounds coherent during his bits that are very obviously scripted and rehearsed. Otherwise he struggles to string together a sentence much less make a point.
It is not his fault, he is an old man and had a very serious stroke. I just feel bad that they keep sending him out there when perhaps he shouldn't be.

He's picked us to win all our national title games (including the Fiesta Bowl, since we'd be "too fast" for Nebraska).

1/3 wrong
2/3 right

I think most times he picks the favorite tho. Would you have similar results picking the favorite? Not like he is always picking spreads to go with the prediction.

Corso picked:

1992 - Miami-FL

I remember the wrath he received from Copeland and Curry after the game. I think I still have it on VHS.

How did he do against the line, though?

Yeah, I remember that...in his defense though, all the media, 'cept for a sole sportswriter in Arizona, was picking Miami to win big...

What I recall most about the lead-up to that game though was Craig James; he was Corso's 'partner' back than (like Herbstreit was later) and he was covering the Alabama practices. All week, he was going against the grain of everyone else on ESPN and kept saying he thought Alabama would win; he said there was just something about their attitude in practice and he thought they were a team of destiny. Then, right before kick-off, James said he had changed his mind and picked Miami to beat Bama; he said Lamar Thomas would be the difference and catch the winning TD. Corso congratulated him for coming over to the winning side...

After the game, when they went back to the ESPN guys, both Corso and James had Bama hats on saying something like 'We knew it all along...'
