"Toxic" by Brittney Spears was the number one song on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40.
"The Passion of the Christ" was the box office number one film in the United States.
"Friends" was airing its final season.
Facebook was two months old. It would be over two years until it was expanded so that anyone with an email address could join.
And this beautiful moment was still 14 years away:

I wonder how many folks on this site know you originally had to have an approved college/university email address to join Facebook. That was a long time ago.

That is correct. They talk about that a little in The Social Network about the founding of Facebook. Excellent movie for anyone that hasn't seen it.

They aren't wrong but they also do not call it The Facebook because of that.
The only people who remember "TheFacebook" are those are of us who were in college in the early 2000s. And while we are old to a lot of people, we ain't the "old people" generally described there.
