what gets me is how fast everything turned against hurts. for his 2 year career we were constantly subjected to stories and posts defending him as a great qb. his detractors acknowledged his athletic ability and his ability to do enough to win while surrounded with alabama talent, but noted that his "greatness" would not translate to other teams.

Hurts' champions are all completely gone. just like that. Please note I will acknowledge there was a small contingent of alabama fans who early on in the season were worried about him against quality competition. but they were few in number. Ad nauseum, from local to national sports talk, hurts was defended.

I betcha, if tua was not there, the champions of hurts would be lining up on finebaum to defend him as a great qb.

funny watching LSU and Rbarn fans defend hurts. They want him to start so bad so they might have a chance

There was a pretty large amount of Bama fans who were saying Hurts couldn't get the job done after the 2016 season

I wouldn’t want him as LSU quarterback. Besides him scrambling he is not a good passer. He is a good kid and can make some plays but Tia is a high tisk high reward type of quarterback.

What if I told you that a QB who went 25-2 as a starter in his Freshman and Sophmore season would be benched in favor of another Freshman?

The 30 for 30 title would be Benching Greatness

When dealing with supporters who elevate a coach, team, politician or whatever to "god-like" status, the breakups are absolutely brutal. You can't just wish a guy well and move on, you have to diminish him in his work and as a person. He's leaving the hive, perhaps not even by his own choosing, but because of it he has to be absolutely crushed. It's weird and it's not just sports.

It's a knee jerk reflex to protect/defend the honor of the person who made the decision, and it's pretty amazing to watch.

Kinda like LSU fans do every year about their QB. Try to make everyone believe they have a good QB.

Dude Hurts was on his way to getting 21-Nothing’d against Georgia. Nobody was defending Jordan Jefferson afterwards

Wrong.

Alabama fans were very excited after his freshman year because a fricking freshman was the QB on a team that made the NC.

Clearly the hype was there.

Then he didn't improve as much as we hoped AND Tua was behind him. Rational Alabama fans stopped the hype train and became wary midseason last year.

No he isn't.

He's a damn near perfect QB.

Funny watching A&M fans living vicaroiusly thru Bama. Must suck knowing your team is fighting for 4th place in the West.

There was a pretty large contingent of Bama fans saying Hurts could win the Heisman too.

Seriously. LSU has never had a HC that had the ‘nads to pull their starting QB at halftime of a NCG. Never.

Except for that HC that had a cup of coffee in BR in the early 2000s.

Especially when you have a defense like Bama who can just swallow up offensive mistakes. They sure bailed out Hurts over the last couple of seasons.

And of course, we have the Bama fans that are allowing A&M fans to have a reach around.
