The universities that belong to the cancelled football conferences have thousands of students on campus which includes the football players. College Presidents say they cancelled due to covid health risk to football players. How is having thousands on campus not a risk?

I not advocating no football, just the opposite, I think all conferences should be playing full schedules.

Unfortunately, I think things are going to get a lot worse even after then, regardless of who wins. This political unrest is unlike anything I've seen in my lifetime. I'm ready for some unity in our country

It is. That’s why they cancelled football.
It’s dumb, but they know students on campus is going to be a clusterfrick.
Pretty much every expert and university presidents have ceded that students on campus will cause problems and they will be sent home early.
It will be in the SEC too.

Conference leaders just don’t have the guts to send students home and hold football with fully quarantine “student athletes.” That’s what it will take, but no one will do it.

While I agree that we need some football and play the season, having to cancel Professor Whoeverthefrick’s Biology 101 class for a two week quarantine is not a reschedule nightmare potentially costing bookooh dollars and media/fan outrage

Cancelling football does nothing to mitigate the risk of having thousands of students on campus.

Bingo, that’s exactly what the CBS sorts guy was trying to point out.

People have to make money off the players. It's all about the money

If they cancel in person classes then the university’s lose massive amounts of dorm and food and book money and presidents have to fire fellow nerds (the professors).

Cancelling football to them means they get to fire the coaches making millions (which they resent) and causes the athletes who stuffed them in lockers in high school and blow off their classes now to lose out on millions in draft money.

This is just want they wanted to do all along but didn’t have the media and political backing to do it

I was with you up to this point. Ofcourse it makes money, so does wal mart and every other place that got deemed "essential" during the first lock down. You don't have to play. Again, if the school does nothing but exploit you simply don't play. You'll be stunned at the viewership remaining the same. That goes even if every player in the top 250 decides to skip. People love their schools first and foremost. The players change every year. Do I wish them well and hope they do great? Ofcourse, but me viewing my schools games won't change because some players decided to stay home and do what they felt was best for them.

I thought so too, until I saw the riots and rhetoric from the 1960.

Don't forget that some of these same schools will have intramural sports in the fall.

Me starting to think we should just treat it like kids with chicken pox and expose everyone to it ASAP and let God sort it out. This shite is going to drag and drag and we won’t get basketball OR baseball and I’m going to start shooting the squirrels in the arse just watch them suffer

Exactly right. COVID-19 threatens the entire college business model of in-person classes and wild parties. Football isn't the administrators' big worry, especially if players want to form a union.

That's exactly the point Saban made last week. Agree totally.

The whole "safe" thing in this discussion is so stupid....they are "safe" if they are in class, at parties, on big groups....if you don't know you are positive and have to be told your sick by a test, you are not sick....of the people who have been positive in this age group 0.056% went to a hospital
