Emmitt Smith is a great example of the ability of sports to lift a man out of squalor and under-privilege so that his daughter can have better opportunities than he did.

Wouldn't say he grew up in "squalor" More of a working class environment with hard working parents who instilled a solid work ethic.

I think she’s signaling that A&M soccer offers better opportunities than Florida football. We’ll see.

It was indeed an A&M>UF shot, but I will posit that your average D-1 college soccer player will be (on average) more successful in life than your average D-1 football player.
They are more realistic about the fact that they are there for an education and not as a step to being a professional athlete.
