The Canuck 3B was waiting for the State runner to pass him right?

On the slow mo replay he never even glances at him. It looked like he just wanted to wait and make sure he was past the line of vision but then it screwed up his timing and he freaked out and rushed the throw. I'm sure if he could go back he'd just make the throw in stride and not get stuck glove patting.

Feel bad for the guy. Had a helluva game before that inning.

No way - way too risky when a normal routine throw from the inside cut of the grass is there. Guy can duck you, turn and go back and start a rundown, make you bobble, etc.

I'd agree if he'd backhanded it and been off balance or something.

There were a silly number of ways that inning should have ended before it did. It looked like I was out there trying to play D and I am probably the least calm person under pressure I know

He actually never even glove tapped. Looks like he’s been coached not to by the way his hands reacted. He just shuffled his feet till Mac got past him. I imagine if he had been allowed to glove tap he might’ve been able to keep rhythm even with the runner going by. But I’m also of the opinion that a glove tap or two helps fielders as long as it doesn’t impede timing of the runner down the line.

That's a good point, he basically just shuffled forward and kept his hands tight.

Also agree re: the tap. Only issue is when guys get stuck in a loop on it. It's absolutely a good way on a play just like that to set yourself and slow things back down.

Oh yeah. I’m fully aware the play was at first, but given what transpired a tag would have been nice huh?

hindsight

If he'd have gone for the tag and bobbled the ball, everyone would say "JUST MAKE THE ROUTINE THROW!"

Then we would have been talking about how stupid the State runner was to just run right into the tag which is exactly what he tried to do.

Tbh it just looked like he was nervous. Makes sense I think the majority of Auburn's players were nervous tonight. It's a tough stage. Essienatially it would be the equivalent of MSU Basketball making a run to the Final Four. I know the lights would be too big for us then so I understand it being tough.

I hope he isn't hated by Auburn. He had some clutch hitting. He would get that in the regular season 10/10
