SEC has 5.
4 of the top 5 defenses are Big 10 schools - you read that right.
I think "elite defense conference" has shifted from the SEC

This is the correct answer.
Even the middle tier teams - Michigan, Michigan state - have dreadful offenses.

Depends who got shut out.
(3) Iowa, Michigan, and Indiana shut out 1-5 Rutgers (Rutgers beat 1-6 Umass)
(1) Ohio State shut out Cincinnati
(1) Penn State shut out Maryland
(1) Indiana also shut out 0-7 Eastern Illinois (FCS school)
(1) Maryland shout out 1-6 Howard (FCS school)
(4) Wisconsin shut out UCF, C MI U, Kent State, and Michigan State
Is this some subtle : pimp : troll for the Badgers?

I think it says more about the less than elite offenses in the big 10

The Big 10 is in a defensive trend and the SEC is in an offensive trend. Strange but true.

Wisconsin has 4 in 6 games.
Outscoring teams 255-29, and 14 of the points they gave up came after a 35-0 lead vs Michigan.
Pretty impressive.

35 Wisconsin, 14 Michigan
24 Wisconsin, 15 Northwestern
Proof the folks in Ann Arbor are suspect?
5-1 Michigan roughly equals 1-4 Northwestern

Rutgers had 1 passing yard last week in the massacre against Indiana. The head coach said in his presser that he didn’t even know that was possible lmao

The only high powered offenses are from proven coaches. OSU, Pennsylvania State, Minnesota, Wisky, Indiana (Tom Allen is going to get a major coaching offer somewhere) and sometimes Maryland. It is a top heavy conference for sure. Nebraska and Purdue have had major injury issues with quarterbacks and RB’s, which as really killed any momentum that they had entering the season. Northwestern lost a ton of good players after last year and they are young and inexperienced. It is almost by necessity that the majority of the schools are hanging their hats on defense now.

No matter the opponents, shutting out FOUR FBS teams in one year in today's college football is really impressive, even more so shutting out 4 of 6 opponents so far. They have only given up 29 points total through 6 games. Those are like 1950s defensive numbers. I haven't seen Wisconsin play, but that kind of defensive performance is exceedingly rare these days.

It's hard to pinpoint it to just "great defense". There's a lot of Kirby-type offenses in the Big 10 y'know.

Ohio State and Wisconsin are legit. Penn State is good but not elite by any means. Rest of the conference is terrible.

What's the avg. rating of their scoring offenses vs the SEC's?
