The best playoff, the most fair way to include a non conference champ is this

Take the top three conference champs, and pick two teams to play for the fourth spot among the weakest of the remaining conf champs and strongest non-champs. It would basically be a 5 team playoff. For this season, Ala vs PAC champ Oregon or Big 12 champ Okla to see who qualifies for the fourth spot.

Easier to have a six team playoff with a first round bye for the 1 and 2 seed (like NFL).
5 P5 conference champs plus one at large bid.

Auto qualify a G5 team if they’re ranked so high.
