Naw. He ain't play for Bama, he ain't good.

But if PP7 were so good at returning punts wouldn't he have risen to the top and returned for more than one year at LSU?

There was this guy called Trindon Holliday on the team. He just set an NFL playoff record for return TDs.

Never heard of him?

He did when they needed him to. There's no reason to have your best player, and probably one of the best players the SEC has seen in the secondary in quite some time, returning punts and kicks. He was simply too important to the team.

The little dude? Yeah I remember him. Why doesn't he have the NCAA record for return yards or tds?

Which one would think could be good enough to return punts professionally, yes? Why isn't he?
yeah cause success in college always carries over to the nfl.

For those Kansas City Chiefs fans who are still looking for a reason to bang on the Scott Pioli era, here is your chance.

Javier Arenas is a former Chief.

The new Kansas City regime -- Pioli was fired after four years in January -- sent Arenas to Arizona for fullback Anthony Sherman on Wednesday. Arenas will always be remembered in Kansas City for being the compensation the Chiefs received for tight end Tony Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is one of the most decorated players in Kansas City history. Arenas is a player who barely made an impact in three seasons in Kansas City. Pioli traded Gonzalez to Atlanta in 2009 for a second-round pick in 2010. Pioli took Arenas, a cornerback/returner out of Alabama, with the 50th overall pick in 2010.

Arenas had his moments but never became a huge part of the plan in Kansas City. The Chiefs have continued to upgrade at spots Arenas played and there was no chance he’d make the roster this year. If so, he wouldn’t have had a huge role. The Chiefs are set at cornerback with the free-agent additions of Dunta Robinson and Sean Smith. Along with Brandon Flowers, they are considered the NFL's best trio of cornerbacks.

With Arenas now expendable, the Chiefs used him as a piece to help their offense with the Sherman addition.
ESPN, more accurately - Bill Williamson, was really laying it on Javy Arenas. After reading this, I wonder what his role will actually be in Arizona? Could he end up being the 4th/5th corner off the bench when not returning kicks?

Splitting time with Chad Jones(also a great returner) will do that.

LSU is fortunate enough to not have to rely on one guy as a returner.

I know that Bammer Nation values NCAA success over professional success, though.

I wonder why guys like Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey and Deion Sanders returned punts? I guess they must not have been that important to their teams?

None of them can match up to the greatness of Javier Arenas, truly.

Did they have any guys on their teams with nearly identical abilities, regarding returning kicks? Trindon Holliday's kick/punt return abilities are well noted. You don't send your best player (Patrick Peterson) out on the field when he's not needed. You send a guy out there that's less valuable (Trindon Holliday) that may be able to provide the same outcome.

Patrick Peterson came in when he was needed. It's that simple.

Apparenty none of the match up to the greatness of PP7, as he was simply too good and too important to his team to be troubled with returning kicks in college.

You have a tough battle to wage if you are going to try and throw shade at the guy with every single measurable you could ever want in a DB/KR/PR. All that for Arenas.
