The 3 to 2 AU-MSU game: is it the worst game ever played?

TCU and California played an awful bowl game last year.

Wake and VT played a game that went to OT at 0 to 0 a few years ago.

The Florida-Miami game last night was bad, but compared to these 3 games, last night was fairly pedestrian.

Hell 50 years ago there used to be a shite ton of games end 0-0 because everybody thought it was cool to play so scared that it was acceptable to punt on 3rd down

That's an off season thread bro. We are over that shite. If you want to talk about bad football there's a game from last night that fits the bill

You say worst game ever,I say defensive masterpiece

Fun fact from that game: Auburn actually scored all 5 points. State's safety came when Ryan Pugh got called for holding in the endzone

Went with a girl that I was trying to get with to the 3-2 game. Needless to say, she didn't talk to me afterwards. I'm sure the game was only marginally responsible for that.

Not trying to be a smartass, but how else would Mistake get two points if it wasn't a safety?

I actually like defensive games as much as offensive games, but that 3-2 game was not a clash of great defenses but a display of ineptitude. It was pretty bad.

Just pointing out that they didn't actually earn the safety by making a tackle in the endzone, Auburn saftied ourselves and gifted the 2 points or they would've been shutout

So a week ago I went to a kickoff function where Tuberville and Croom were the 2 speakers and that game came up. They kind of acted like it was any other game and Croom lamented one specific play that he felt blew the game for them. There had to be 50 bad plays that game. Croom has an excellent story btw. Very humble.

I thought about that angle after I posted.

It reminds of the story my Dad used to tell me about Auburn's 6-5 win over Florida in Gainesville in 1958. My Dad played (QB/RB) at Auburn from 1956-1959.

Anyways, Auburn led 6-3 late in the 4th quarter and were backed up with a 4th down on their own 2 yard line. Coach Jordan told Dad to take the snap and take a knee in the endzone for a safety so that Auburn could then safely kick it out of danger.

Dad responded "Coach, wouldn't it be safer to just have me step aside and have the center just snap the ball out of the endzone to avoid the risk of a bobbled snap?"

He said Coach Jordan thought about it for a few seconds while tapping his foot and taking a few drags from his cigarette (many coaches, and even some players, smoked on the sidelines and/or the locker rooms in those days). He then said, in his heavy southern drawl "Just go kneel the GD ball."

That was my last SEC home opener as a member of the FMB. It was incredibly humid and hot as hell that night.
