Nov. 26: Tennessee backs out of memorandum signed by Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano due to fan and booster backlash. The deal was worth 6 years, $27M.

Nov. 27: Currie releases statement regarding Schiano situation and the future of the search. Currie does not meet with any candidates on this day.

Nov. 28: Currie meets with the Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy in a Dallas hotel.

No deal is reached and Gundy receives an extension and raise from Oklahoma State.

After Tennessee doesn't reach a deal with Gundy, Currie exchanges messages with NC State coach Dave Doeren's agent, Jordan Bazant. "Let's get this done," Bazant writes to Currie.

Nov. 29: Currie's whereabouts are unknown on this day but reports by a Knoxville radio station indicate that Tennessee has agreed to terms with Purdue coach Jeff Brohm. The report is unsubstantiated and there are conflicting reports about whether Brohm was offered the job.

Nov. 30: Doeren's agent circles back with Currie, writing: "He is fired up."

When Currie doesn't respond, Bazant writes: "Really need to hear from you."

Currie instead flies from North Carolina to California to meet with Washington State coach Mike Leach.

"Although I have not offered the job or discussed terms with (Leach), he told me he would take the job if offered," Currie writes in his email to UT chancellor Beverly Davenport.

Dec. 1: Currie returns to Knoxville where he is relieved of his duty as athletic director by chancellor Beverly Davenport.

Before it is reported, Leach texts Currie, "I hope you come out of this OK and we can work together," the Washington State coach writes.

Schiano going to end up getting anything out of this? Did he file a lawsuit?

Leach would have been awesome. Why was your Chancellor against hiring him?

Chancellor knew Clay Travis wouldn’t accept it.

If that is the true timeline I don't really see what Currie did wrong.

Leach was perfect for us, and we were perfect for him .

Leach would have been much better than Pruitt imo. Just a disaster of a search.

Leach would give up 40 points a game and I doubt he would have been as successful against SEC defenses. Although I would have liked to see him hired just for his personality.

I know I'm a Vol fan but man I can't help but picture Currie's final days as AD in the same way Hitler's final days played out: furiously trying to rearrange the pieces on the board in the Führerbunker as the Red Army (Vol fans) rapidly approach.

Currie was in over his head. He started behind the 8 ball because he wouldn't get rid of Butch. Everyone knew he was a dead man walking and Currie didn't have the balls to pull the trigger and put him out of his misery.

What is hilarious is they ended up with that DC from Bama and Hoover. I bet the fans would have taken Schiano over that.

Frick no. Dude was 1 game over .500 in the Big East and was hated in the NFL.

No. I would rather have Pruitt than Schiano but I would rather have Leach or Brohm.

On the other post where I was told I'm stupid for saying Tennessee had a Tennessee problem, not a Butch Jones problem, this is what I'm talking about. There is a culture problem at Tennessee, Auburn has the same problem imo. Auburn's is a problem of too many people having input and too many egos. Hope our new AD fixes it, that's why I like the hire....no previous ties to Auburn, boosters, or Pat Dye. I don't know for sure the problem at UT, maybe same as Auburn to some degree, but I hope Fulmer gets it right so you whip UGA regularly again

Poker Dough you spot on...Tennessee has a Tennessee problem. They thought they were better than Schiano after going thru Dooley and Butch Jones, really?

And they ended up with Pruitt. Tennessee can't get out of their own way.
