First of all, I have no idea if any of this is true.. but I found the quoted text below interesting..
Two or Three Years
Perhaps that is why we are hearing 2022 or 2023
The fact that a payment plan is being discussed indicates that both schools are leaving sooner than later. If they waited until the end of the current contract, I believe that no money would be owed, but I’m not sure on that.
First of all, I have no idea if any of this is true.. but I found the quoted text below interesting..
quote:
For now, the biggest snag remains with Texas and Oklahoma as the two Universities continue to say all the right things about leaving after the 2024-2025 Grant of Rights expires. Everyone knows, Texas and Oklahoma know, SEC and Big 12 know that is legal maneuvering and it's smart to say that for now.
As for the payment owed to the league, the two programs have told the Big 12 that the plan is to pay exit fees over two two large sums. The concern from the Big 12 perspective is once the first deposit is made from exit fees, and Texas and OU are released to join SEC early, the second deposit from the exit fees will get tied up in court and the future of the second payment will be up in the air.
However, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby will not allow a first payment and being told that "the second check is in the mail,” according to sources close to the situation. The Big 12 will remain patient, sources said, and if it does not receive the full exit fees based on departure time, it will not give in to the total amount owed.
For now, if the full amount for two or three years isn't paid upfront, sources say the Big 12 won't budge and Texas and Oklahoma will remain in the league until the Grant of Rights expires.

Zero chance Texas and OU wait. They will pay the buyout if necessary. They will make it back and then some by doing so.

Maybe this will fall apart and y'all won't come to the SEC.
A guy can hope.

I'm betting it's 2023 when they leave.

It was always going to happen earlier than the GOR expired, and it was always going to be a negotiation.
With that said, the Big 12 has done a great job building itself up to have maximum leverage in this situation. They don't have to worry about placating ESPN or having the league crumble (and no buyout is paid).

From the link in the OP..
Despite animosity or legal maneuvering, the Big 12, Texas, OU, SEC and ESPN will need in some way to work together to make this happen sooner rather than later.
I’m not sure why the Big 12 would need for this to happen sooner.. perhaps because they want to sign a new contract and increase the current Grant of Rights so that no one else leaves? That could be good leverage for Texas and Oklahoma.

I doubt they want Texas and Oklahoma being champions of anything Big 12 related when they are basically leaving in 2022, or 2023. The earlier the better for the Big 12 too IMO.

Bowlsby's got to look tough even if he's not really going to be tough. He's already been made to look stupid once.

I think there may be more to it than that. They want the payment for the Angry8 and not have to share any with the new teams coming in.

Thats an interesting angle I hadn’t thought of.. that is also good leverage.
Either way, it sounds like it will be 2022 or 2023 depending on the negotiations. My money is now on 2022 after reading all that.

Probably.
I think this is also why the Big 12 ultimately won't push back against the 12 team CFP. Those schools are staring down $20 million shortfalls. Having the TX/OU buyout money for the Irate 8 makes them whole until the CFP money can kick in.
They can't long oppose a CFP expansion; it's the only place that has the potential to permanently fill that budget gap. A $20 million annual hole is an existential crisis, no matter how many members the league has.

I think it’s pretty obvious this will happen after next season, it will all be finalized around this time next year if I had a guess

However it all washes out, be assured that the exit fees will be negotiated by the lawyers involved.
Don't be surprised if OU & Texas begin competing within the SEC beginning Fall/2022....I've read elsewhere that the recently released 2022 SEC schedules are somewhat tentative. If they are, then all this brou-haha is understandable. If not, nothing to worry about.

I don't care when as long as they make their huge payment to the BDF. They thought that they could torpedo the league and pay nothing - it isn't going to work that way
It's called Karma, and it is lovely to see

You mean Texas A&M thought that they could torpedo the move and block Texas from joining the SEC.. that’s why it was all leaked.. by A&M.
Karma isn’t a bitch.. it is a mirror.. and your time is coming..
Either way, neither school is going to pay a dime. This will all be paid directly or indirectly by ESPN via the LHN contract.
