A good coach doesn't pull his starter mid-2nd quarter against anyone regardless of the score.

Typical stupidity and bitterness from you. Sumlin appears to have made a mistake based on the QB situation at ATM. He was the top JUCO prospect. Are you capable of telling the truth, ever?

Could be worse. They could be Texas. When Baker Mayfield wins the Heisman, he will be the 4th QB since 2010 to have played HS/Juco ball within 120 miles of Austin that Texas didn't offer.

To be fair, they offered most of them, just to play safety

Sumlin probably just got hammered drunk and forgot to call Stidham back.

Yep. And to kick them in their yambags even more, Jameis Winston wanted to play for Texas but they wouldn't return his phone calls.

With Stidham we're probably 9-2 instead of 7-4

Very likely 9-2. I never understood that move by Sumlin. Unless of course he already mentally checked out & was just going thru the motions.

My personal opinion is that Sumlin thought he had a good thing with Starkel and that he was similar to Stidham, so he rolled the dice with Mond who potentially had a higher ceiling, and was a package deal with an "elite" receiver and a good LBer.

Our season would definitely be different, because we wouldn't have tried playing 2 QBs vs. UCLA, and if Stidham got hurt, wed still have Starkel. But in the end, it was Sumlin's job that was on the line so it was his decision to make.

This. It was a gamble by Sumlin and it didn't work out for him, but I sort of understood his reasoning on taking Stidham as a one-year (if he was successful) rent-a-QB. We needed to get out of that pattern. Of course, a big reason why we were in that predicament is that Sumlin went for the wrong guy in 2015--he never should have taken Murray over Stidham. I think Sumlin even knew better, he just didn't want to deal with all the recruiting fanboys (including some BMA's) who fell for the Kyler hype. Anybody who actually watched the kid knew that he was undersized and the beneficiary of being surrounded by great talent.

If Sumlin takes Stidham instead of Murray in 2015, it might have really changed the direction of the program. Stidham instead of Starkel/Mond in 2017 might have gotten us an extra win or two, but wouldn't have changed the trajectory of the program.

Texas couldn’t take Manziel based upon what we all know now, same with Winston as well as a coach telling the UT staff it was a push to get attention, Mayfield wasn’t on anyone’s radar (walked on at TTech), wouldn’t touch a thief/academic fraud case in Cam much less pay six figures & then you have RG3.

RG3 offer list isn’t that great. OU, LSU didn’t offer either. Rice, TTech, Houston’s & TAMU level teams weren’t all in for him either.

Yup. And even more so if he was in danger of losing him to y'all.
