Honestly, what’s the obsession with Whataburger? It’s garbage. I don’t get it.

It's the best mass market fast food burger place out there and there always seems to be one on the way home after you've been drinking all night. Not sure acknowledging that is an obsession.

Agreed. Pretty much everything on the menu is good.
During college enjoyed a 2:30-3am run after hitting the bars.

What are you comparing it to? Where did you have it?
I had whataburger near the Florida/bama border and it was trash.

Yep, the loyalty of most fans is due in large part to the 24 hour places they went to in high school and college.

I like Whataburger. Nothing garbage about it.

Location is key. Some places put more care into preparing your food than others. The OP may have ate at the wrong place.

There are a lot of better burger places, but none of those are open at 2:00am.

Maybe in Texas they take more pride in their product. I’ve eaten at a few locations in LA and MS and it tastes like cardboard.

Well then, I guess if I ever had cause to eat fast food in LA or MS I'd limit it to Popeyes.
Are we all square now?

We got a good here in Florida, Derrick Henry’s uncle eats there occasionally. The fries are great.

Id say that is what it is. Some places have better cooks and maybe fresher ingredients. Whats the best places to eat in your neck of the woods?

Are there better burgers at other chains, yes. Are there better burgers/breakfast items at other chains at 1am in the morning, no. That's where the value lies.
Their rep in the state of Texas did take a hit when they sold out to some ownership company up in Chicago, so you will find not as many Texans defend it to the death now.

Certainly not what I remember when I was younger. Numerous burger places are much better these days

All fast food is garbage, there's just different levels of garbage. Whataburger is towards the top of that

Wait til you've had a couple of 300-400 mile drives across the state a few times; having good, consistent fast food available every 50 miles is a treat. So is a quality hamburger "snack" at midnight.
Whataburger is my go to burger, but I rarely eat drive through fast food in Austin.
