In 2020, Blake Baker was the defensive coordinator for Miami, but then he left to take the LB coach job at LSU earlier this offseason.
Now, it seems Baker could be in the mix to return to the rank of “coordinator” as he’s reportedly in the mix for the open Tennessee defensive coordinator position.
Per Tennessee insider Jimmy Hyams, Baker has been offered the job under first-year Tennessee coach Josh Heupel

They just got turned down by Ohio St.'s LB coach. Kinds sad that UT fallen to the point where they're having to purse LB coaches for the DC spot.

Coaching Search wasn’t very dramatic so we had to make up for it now

I like Baker where LSU wants him now, but I’d be fricking pissed if we made him our DC

Finally we can turn someone down instead of the opposite for a change

Why?
He was all but fired this year as DC at Miami. He gave up 45+ ppg and over 7.5 yds per play to ranked opponents.
Is he a good recruiter? Because Diaz and him were pretty close, and Diaz stripped him of play calling duties after year 2 (which was an * season that didn't count).

Because no one wants the job.

The only reason would be a quick pay day.
It'll end up being an overpaid Sunseri type.

Does your new DC have the authority to bring his own coaches in?

Apparently LSU is saying that Baker hasn't talked to anyone. No one is sure where Hyams got this info, but it is Jimmy Hyams so it's not shocking. His sources had Jeff Brohm in orange and white during the previous coaching search(the one that resulted in Pruitt). They keep reporting that Danny White and Heupel have been meeting at undisclosed locations away from campus. As many have said/reported, White is big on no leaks; and is taking it up a ridiculous notch to make sure there aren't any.
