Legitimate academic institutions remember they are STUDENT-athletes

Then there's UT...

Makes sense

When auburn announces their coaching search, it will be amended to this:

"Monetary concerns should not and will not be a factor when it comes to finding the right players to restore our proud tradition."

Its Fulmer, and its not a coincidence that this follows the announcement that Hostess plans to continue production of twinkies...

Doesn't UT athletics pay taxes etc. to the main system?

I heard it's really screwed up like the Athletic Department has to pay for services from the main system.

Since I read it on the internet it must be true!

I'm curious to know what morons (a) decided that Derek Dooley had ever done anything in his career to warrant a $5M buyout, and (b) decided that he was worth paying the whole $5M to without having his salary at his new job mitigate against it. At least Bama was smart enough to make sure that Shula's contract was worded in such a way that his salary in Jacksonville mitigated against the buyout, and Dooley by comparison makes Shula look like Vince Lombardi.

Don't tell me that was all on Hamilton. The AD is not authorized to approve that kind of new expense in a budget.

Actually, Knoxville doesn't have the market cornered on stupidity. Auburn paid Tuberville over $5M...half within 30 days of his departure and the other half within six months. Two lump sums...also no mitigation. If anyone at Auburn had two brain cells to rub together at the time Tuberville's contract was written, his Texas Tech salary would have mitigated a nice chunk of it.

What fools agreed to this?

Doesn't Tennessee still have two full Athletic Departments...one of men's sports and one for women's sports?

I know that we dont owe 18M in buyouts, so any insight as to how that number was arrived at?

Prolly $9,000,000 for the buyouts & another $9,000,000 shortfall to cover bonds for upgrades to Neyland, TBA & operating expenses etc...

Damn...most SEC schools donate from the AD to the general fund...

They relieved the AD of its obligation to give $6 million a year to the university for academic stuff. Should've been done a long time ago but good to see nonetheless
