Question for the old B12 folks on here?
Seems when he made the OSU donation it was for like 250 million but it was restricted stock and by the time it could be sold it had dropped to 50 million.
Did something like that really happen?

I read where his net valve was about $500M at the time of his death, but he had given over $500M to OSU. Makes UK contributors look like the derelicts at Santa Anita.

I remember something like that for one of his donations. He gave a total of $500M over his lifetime. He provided $165M one time payment for athletic construction projects. I wish he would have stayed at A&M!

If memory serves, UK's endowment is about 1.2 billion (about double that of Auburn)
The Calumet baking fortune (Calumet Farm next to Keeneland) left 200+ million to UK in the early 80's for medical and cancer research. In todays dollars that should at least the 500 million mark.
Joe Craft, billionaire, has already given a lot to UK and he is still young. As have others in the past few decades.
As an Auburn fan you should be aware you have a vet school because UK gave you the money instead of building a competing one. I think so many graduate vets spots are reserved for UK undergrads because of this.
Santa Anita is a decent track but Del Mar is the jewel out there.

Good man.
Too bad though they can't get a real coach. I'm sure with all that money they could at least lure Nick Saban away from Alabama.

I had an office one floor above his for several years in Preston Center (Dallas). He took his two little dogs to work every day and always said hi on the elevator. Several people where I worked took his book down to be signed. Great guy - true titan. He will be missed. RIP

RIP, I'm sure he has plenty of enemies, like most oil Barron's do.
But I only knew he was a CFB fan, like me.

Mainly because he was one of those few Billionaires that agreed to donate at least half his wealth to charity.

I, as an AU fan, wasn't throwing stones at OSUs accomplishments.

We all have our big donors. AU has Rane, Ginn, Harbert and Cook.

UK gave AU money so they wouldn't have to build a vet school. AU has over 100 slots dedicated to Kentucky Grads each year and they do not pay out of state tuition.

But you were throwing stones at UK's accomplishments, hence the point stating that UK's endowment of 1.2 billion was double that of Auburn's. Seems you were also casting dispersions on Santa Anita which is the mid level track of CA, not the bottom. While tragedy has been an issue of late, perhaps it is more than just the track, and related to the current trend of breeding speed over stamina, which creates a more fragile thoroughbred.

So you intervene with a tit for tat for tit. AUs endowment was $100M short of UA in 2018, but that gap has almost closed.

No just some of the derelicts who visit any race track.
