Well, LSU finished last year below Texas Tech and a couple Sun Belt teams, so......

I think they'll be better because the coaching will be better, but a formula can't quantify that. Which is why these are just for fun.

Part of me wants to see Auburn maximize their talent this year and hit 7 or 8 wins so we can see an amazing 9-7 Outback Bowl between them and Iowa. Throw in a classic New Years Day Florida torrential downpour and that could be beautiful.

Plus we'd get to watch a Bowl divided amongst himself!

Yeah, Kirk needs to hire someone other than his own son to be OC

Iowa's been running basically the same offense since the day Ferentz was hired in 1999

Well, last year you were:

- #113 in the country in Yards Per Play Defense

- #113 in the country in Points Per Game Defense

- #116 in the country in Rush Yards Per Attempt Defense

- #105 in Passer Rating Against Defense

So, I dunno.

Now what are some of the biggest differences between your model and what you actually see playing out?

There is a lot on there that differs greatly from the general thought

Michigan is a pretty easy one. Don't think they are going to be that good, especially after losing both coordinators. Same with Notre Dame.

Cincinnati won't be that good. Not super sold on Pitt either, though they do return some really good defensive pieces up front and Narduzzi can work with that. If Slovis is solid they could be pretty good again.

Not a huge fan of teams with a really good unit and a really average unit (A&M/Tennessee) being in the Top 10.

I don't think State is #11 but I do think they are being overlooked quite a bit. They were solid on both sides last year and return almost everyone, plus have 4-5 years of solid recruiting. However, they play in the West, so that's just a rough reality.

I think Auburn is actually about right. Their defense will be salty and their offense below average.

LSU is way too low - trading Kelly for YawYaw alone is a 10-15 spot bump.

I do think it points out a few things that I felt were probably true already
- Oregon is absolutely not a borderline Top 10 team and Georgia is going to smother them
- Clemson is a Top 15 team, not a Top 5 team
- Kentucky/Ole Miss/Arkansas are legit Top 20-25 teams
- Utah is really solid and I can't wait for that Utah/Florida game
- Super interested to see if Florida State actually takes some strides this year. They should be solid on defense.

The order of the SEC West was mainly what I was referring to so I'm glad you brought this up

I wouldn't be too shocked to see anyone end up 2nd in the west to be honest. There are different reasons to go with almost any team. The same applies to any of those teams finishing last as well.

Yea, I wouldn't either. I think it could absolutely be a year where Alabama goes 12-0 and then everybody else loses at least 3-4 games and beats the shite out of eachother (and Alabama getting 2-3 tests along the way on the road with Arkansas/LSU/Ole Miss).

I think Auburn has a pretty low ceiling, to be honest, just because of the QB situation. But I could definitely see them winning a bunch of slugfests at home and going 8-4/9-3. Could obviously see LSU be pretty solid. Arkansas will absolutely be good. If Dart is able to step in and run the show Ole Miss will be solid again. I already talked about State.

There really shouldn't be a bad team in the West this year. I don't think there's a 2nd Top 5 level team there, but I think it's very much a possibility that there is a #1 team and 6 teams in the Top 25-30 (not poll rankings because losses will do them in, but in SP+/FEI type rankings). It should make for a really fun year of games.

I was actually thinking when I read your methodology that any LACK of returning production could actually be a PLUS for us or considering the horrendous defense we had last year and the ineffectiveness of Bazelak.
