All of seven times we've played since then.

The 2001 AU at the loveliest village was another one of those shake your head moments. We had a very good team...undefeated and Rex Grossman, the gunslinger, at qb. Spurrier called a bad game against a very poor AU team that was rag tag in talent compared to UF...but road trips to Jordan Hare always scared the beejeepers outta me. The game was ESPN at night and AU had winds howling at gusts of 45 to 50 mph. True...our star rb Ernest Graham was banged up and the run game not doing great...but we continued to throw deep bombs into the freaking wind all night. Between the picks (4 as I recall)and the 3 and outs..we were playing with fire which as I recall was happening at the AU library...anyway our defense kept bailing us out but we lost.
Yes you are correct. And I remember people talking about that big fire at the library. They said it burnt up all three books and one of the books hadn't even been colored in yet. :rimshot:

What about '05 LSU vs UT...LSU is coming off of a win over Arizona State at Sundevil Stadium and ranked #5 in the country. UT is coming off of a 7 point win over UAB and a 9 point loss at Florida...LSU is up 21-0 at halftime...UT comes back to win 30-27 in OT. LSU wins the rest of their regular season games but loses in the SECCG (finishing #5 in the country)...UT finishes the season 5-6 including their first loss to Vanderbilt in over 20 years.

Strange in a vacuum. Not as strange when you consider that LSU was breaking in Miles, had its opener moved to Arizona, had the UT game moved by Rita to a Monday and lost. The circumstances were strange and the loss was maddening, but in that situation, there is not much like it. Crazy time.

Alabama
in 1999, Bama goes 10-3, wins the SEC, but loses at home to Louisiana Tech.
As others have stated - Mike Dubose was not a good coach so these kinds of games really weren't that surprising.
I would also add that La Tech was a pretty good team that year. Tim Rattay was breaking records at QB and was just on fire that game.

Surprised no one mentioned 2011 game between Auburn and South Carolina. I know Auburn won 8 games, but that was a bad football team. They were spanked by everyone else with a pulse. But they beat the Gamecocks in their own backyard and did it with defense. WTF
WTF was Stephen Garcia's final game. Spurrier kicked him of the team the Sunday afterwards.
Even with Garcia throwing three picks we still should have won the game. It was, without a doubt, Michael Dyer's finest game, he had like 40 carries for 150 yds. Auburn just had to run the ball and count-on Garcia throwing it away when we had the ball - and he obliged them. Plus I think Lattimore had two of his only four fumbles in his career in that game. We only lost one of those though. (the other two were to FSU and maybe Vandy if I remember correctly). I remember CC Whitlock had a sweet interception and a nice return, then fumbled it away at the end of the return. I remember our defense was so tired that some of them were throwing-up on the sidelines early in the 4th qtr. Time of possession was so out of whack ... Auburn must have had the ball 40 minutes. Horrible, pathetic, football game. And we led in the 4th qtr and could not hold-on.

.Our other loss that year(before the Sugar Bowl) was to a pretty bad Ole Miss team
In our defense, we were a win away from the sugar bowl. So thanks for taking that Curb-stomping by Nebraska for us.

Georgia won the SEC in 80-81-82 and went to the sugar bowl each year.

1997 Louisiana Tech 26 Alabama 20
The Dubose era is full of bad losses and this is one of two monumental homecoming blunders. I was a sophomore at UA and there I sat, in the rain, watching La Tech take down my beloved tide in Bryant Denny Stadium. The loss was so painful at the time that I wasn't phased one bit by the the Wild Turkey bottle that smashed on my shoulder as I knew it was thrown for good reason.
1999 Louisiana Tech 29 Alabama 28
Surely not again?! Alabama had expectations in 1999. With Chris Samuels at left tackle and Shaun Alexander a legitimate Heisman candidate, this was not supposed to be one of the losses. Yeah, La Tech had Tim Rattay, but he wasn't the one that connected with Sean Cangelosi with 2 seconds remaining to stun the tide faithful at Legion Field. That honor went to back up Brian Stallworth. My friends and I just sat there in silence with those "what just happened" looks on our faces. No worries, next week Alabama would go win at "The Swamp".
2007 ULM 21 Alabama 14
We got Nick Saban so these losses are done with, right? RIGHT? No. The warhawks stunned Alabama. This game wasn't even carried on my ESPN Gameplan, so there I was, sitting and listening to every gut wrenching moment by my computer to an internet radio broadcast. To make matters worse, I was relaying the final moment by phone to a friend of mine. I couldn't find a hole big enough to bury myself in that day.
2008 Utah 31 Alabama 17
I know Alabama came just one miraculously amazing Tim Tebow 4th quarter performance from playing for the national title, but there was still no excuse for this debacle. Forget the Andre Smith fiasco, because it looked as if the tide was completely shocked to see Utah run no huddle. Hats off to the Utes, it was your night in New Orleans.

" Can you think of anymore strange losses where your team has 9/10 wins, but loses to an inferior opponent."
Happens on a nearly annual basis at LSU

I still remember that 1996 Bama-Tennessee game. Freddie Kitchens didn't see a wide arse open Patrick Hape in the endzone at the end of the game.

You forgot the Northern Illinois game.

In 1981, Georgia Tech beat #2 Alabama in their first game of the season. It was their only win of the year. Alabama went on to go 9-2-1 and finish at #7.
Of current SEC teams since 1980, there have been 19 games where a team that goes on to win 9 or more lost to a team that didn't win more than 5.

Number 1 ranked 1959 LSU team loses to a 5-4-1 Tennessee team in Knoxville 14-13. Billy Cannnon stopped on 2 point conversion play to give Tennessee the win. Cannon says he'll go to his grave knowing he was over the goal line. This game cost the Tigers a second straight national championship. Tennessee kept its scoreboard on all night.
