Alabama
in 1999, Bama goes 10-3, wins the SEC, but loses at home to Louisiana Tech.
Florida
in 1985 UF goes 9-1-1, but against a 2-8-1 Rutgers team in the Swamp, they end up in a tie.
LSU
in 1986 LSU goes 9-3, wins the SEC, but loses at home to Miami-of-Ohio.
Tennessee
in 1996 UT goes 10-2, has Peyton Manning at QB, but loses to a 4-7 Memphis team.
Texas A&M
in 1994 A&M goes 10-0-1, with the tie being against a 1-9-1 SMU team a few years removed from the Death Penalty.
1. Can fans of these teams explain how you lost those games?
2. Can you think of anymore strange losses where your team has 9/10 wins, but loses to an inferior opponent.

Tennessee lost 2 games in 1996: Eventual champion Florida, and Memphis
ETA: Sorry, didn't realize that was in the OP

The game ended and they had more points than we did.

That '86 LSU-Miami of Ohio game was a nightmare. That was actually a pretty decent Miami of Ohio team. It was a rainy night and LSU was just super flat and Miami was sky high....Still no excuse. But Tommy Hodson and the offense just couldn't get anything going.
That's part of what makes college football so exciting I guess. On any given night....
ETA: This loss happened a week after beating #7 Texas A&M 35-17 and week before winning at Florida by 11....Our other loss that year(before the Sugar Bowl) was to a pretty bad Ole Miss team. A complete WTF season all around.

Exactly. It was Mike DuBose. You should have the rest of the season as "strange wins".

Who then beat #1 UF in the Swamp...and again in the SEC title game, 34-7.

1984: Undefeated USC (9-0) goes up to Annapolis, MD to play a 3-5-1 Navy team and loses by 2+ TDs.

The 1999 season in general was strange for Alabama. Dubose survived the sex scandal but then lost to a Louisiana Tech team with their starting QB out (air raid offense) in the last moments of the game. He then reels over victories over top 15 Arkansas at home and then top 5 Florida on the road. That ended the Gators 50 game home winning streak. He loses to a crippled UT team at home. Barely beats a horrible Auburn team and then kills Florida again in the SEC title game. We couldn't stop Tom Brady in the Orange Bowl but forced OT only to lose on a missed extra point.

That was S. Alexander...not Dubose.

I still baffled and pissed off at Tay Biddle because of this.

1981 - Eventual SEC Champion Alabama loses to Georgia Tech, in what would be their only win of the year, going 1-10.

Wasn't that GT team coached by Bill Curry.
