Sources tell Chris Low and me that Mississippi State is hiring Bob Shoop as its defensive coordinator. Shoop spent the past two years at Tennessee after serving as defensive coordinator at Penn State and Vanderbilt.

He was great until Tennessee. Gotta think that was a Vol issue more than anything.

Presided over the 2 worst defenses in the history of Tennessee football. But if you recruit a lot of white guys and black guys named "Clarence" or "Barrington", he should do fine.

If it was anything, it was a Butch Jones issue, or the fact that he gets nervous around young black athletes

Makes sense...both coached at Penn State and Moorhead probably asked Franklin 'bout him...

He’s likely exaggerating but Shoop had a very difficult time teaching his defense to our players. Most of them could hardly understand it in 2016, and by 2017 I think he had just mailed it in

We heard the same thing about Grantham's defense when he came on, it was too complex but our players picked it up pretty well. The breakdowns we had were more about physical ability in the secondary than understanding. I think we should be fine, our guys seem to have a pretty high football IQ, which speaks highly of Mullen with the type of kids he brought in.

He was successful at Vanderbilt and Penn State, honkies and private school brothas. He gets around some boys from the projects, and he starts stuttering and clutching his purse.

Yup. The Moorhead connection makes sense but I don’t think it’s a good fit at all

We survived Peter Sirmon. Shoop won't find any virgins here if things get sideways. We can take it
