State - Will Mullen's ability to turn 2 / low 3 star players into real ballers be missed?

Last night I saw Preston Smith have a heck of a first game with Green Bay. It looks like he's going to fit very well on that defense. I looked back and saw he was rated as a .77 - 2 star on 247 coming out of high school.

Mullen turned so many lower rated guys into NFL starters. I hate the guy, but he really did do great work with those grinders. Has Moorhead continued this on? Any young lower rated guys showing great promise this year?

Not all of your NFL guys were 2/3 star, but you've had a few. Your defensive front 7 guys in the league now are:

Fletcher Cox - 4x pro bowl / Super Bowl Champ
Chris Jones - 2nd team all pro last season
KJ Wright - Pro bowl / Super Bowl Champ
Benardrick McKinney - Pro bowl
Pernell McPhee - Super Bowl Champ
Preston Smith
Denico Autry
Kyle Love

Jeffery Simmons
Montez Sweat

Not sure if I missed anyone, but that's quite a group you have in the league. I'm impressed by the consistent placement of defensive guys in the league.

Mullen does a great job of developing and that is why I really don't really pay attention to recruiting
This is only Moorhead's 2nd year so the roster is only half of his players. It's TBD for Moorhead.

Ole Miss fans, will you miss occasionally getting to win an egg bowl because Mullen was checked out?

Mullins record vs ranked teams was embarrassing. I wouldn't say he developed well.

What's MSU record vs ranked teams all time?

I have no idea just wondering if Mullen was better than past coaches at Moo U.

Everything about Mullen will be missed by them. Never seen an organization so dependent on one person

Mullen does do a great job developing but he def needs to get a few more big splashes in recruiting.

We can go the Clemson angle..get a few key players then a bunch of kids who fit the system, but they also have to be able to get into the damn school and fit with the program vibe as well.

Only area he is worrisome in to me is recruiting. If we can pick up on that to end the year and he goes out and replaces English and Knox with recruiters we should be very good for a long time.

I think Mullen's yankee a-hole persona will work better on florida kids and parents than it did in ms. add that to the fact that he is recruiting to uf now and he should be fine.

There's not a program in the country that wouldn't benefit from being able to turn 2/3 star prospects into NFL prospects.
Hungry Mullen was good at identifying talent, but he doesn't hold the patent on developing players

That’s the problem. He will never replace his buddies that are assistant no matter how bad they perform. The only way anyone leaves is because they quit and take another job. It would drive State fans mad when there were obvious weak spots on the coaching staff and Mullen would just never address it.

Part of Mullen's 'development ability' was because so many small schools in Mississippi don't get the coverage those in other states get, and good players get underrated. Some 3-star players in MS would have been 4- and 5-star players in Texas.
