This is what an NCAA spokesman said to Alabama during a presser back in 2002. The implication was that NCAA found Bama's transgressions so egregious they seriously considered giving them the death penalty (a la SMU).

This was 2002, Bama hired Saban in 2007. Saban won his first NC at Bama in 2009. So it took 7 years of wandering in the wilderness, but Bama got it together.

So, keep your head up, UT. In 2028 you guys could be competing for it all.

This seems worse. It certainly seems worse than Logan Young paying a recruit. This seems to be a systematic and systemic culture of corruption in the University. They are in for very dark days; worse than the last few years.

What bama booster did was pretty run of the mill. Bama got hammered cause Stallings told them to go frick themselves and the ncaa got embarrassed

Logan Young didn’t pay a player, he paid the players coach.

Gotcha. It’s been so long ago that I’m fuzzy on the details; I’ve tried to block those years out

Logan didn't pay a recruit and was never accused of paying a recruit.

He was convicted of paying Means' coach to steer him to Bama. Other folks paid the same coach to do the same thing.

Nobody could ever find any evidence that Means or his family ever got a cent. His high school coach sold him like it was 1850 or something.
