Let’s have a full season that starts at the beginning of February.

No, I don’t care if it’s too cold for the Northeners.

It would be a shite product without all of the top stars that would sit out because they've already made the decision to goto the NFL.

If football doesn't happen in the fall, it's not going to happen.

There is a long list of issues. Among them - lower roster numbers as players go to the NFL, and about 8 months of the year they will be playing football games, which is more than even the pros play. They play 12-15 games for the spring, get a month or 2 and then start playing another 12-15 games. And that's not counting camps and other things that go on.

How many you think would skip the season? At least the top 100 prospects? Top 200 possibly?

Do you think the majority of die-hard college football fans love their schools/teams because of the skill of their athletes or because of the love of their university/community?

My personal opinion is that most CFB fans love their schools, regardless of how skilled their athletes are. Yes, we want good players on our teams because we want to win, but I love Auburn because of the orange and blue, not because of Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, Cam Newton, Bo Nix, etc... Don't get me wrong, I love those guys, but they became part of the family, they were not the "pro-creators" of the family. Look at how popular high school football is in many places.

If given a choice, I think most CFB fans would prefer to go back to having only true, non-scholarship students playing the games rather than dealing with a lot of the politically driven BS that is currently going on. Some of us just want an escape from the "real life crap that we deal with daily". Adding in the NIL laws that California and Florida have enacted make it even less appealing to the die-hard fans. That alone will create an even bigger gap from the haves and have-nots. Now, I would hate it for the thousands of student-athletes that take advantage of a college scholarship to obtain an education that they might otherwise not be able to get. However, if players today are more concerned with being paid than taking advantage of what their scholarships offer, I would prefer the NFL to develop their own minor league and let those players play in that league (in front of the 100s of fans that it would draw) and let the others play college football.

Of course not. What does that have to do with whether or not the product will suffer if the season is pushed to the spring?

Honestly, I have no clue how you're getting from my observation about the product on the field for a spring season to your idea that people only care about their school because of the best players.

Yeah ! A 4.5 40guy might be a 5.2 guy wearing a mask.

Hey, maybe the NFL is behind this, lowering draft dollars to super Covid-19 reductions ?

Big time college football is in trouble right now. The financial fallout of either reduced ticket sales and probably no ticket sales combined with no TV revenue is going to devastate most programs.

I think we will look back on 2020 as the year when coaching salaries and athletic budgets peaked and will start trending down dramatically. I don't think most people are aware of just how much main stream academia absolutely hates college athletics... particularly the male dominated sports like football and basketball. Those people hate coaches making millions and millions per year.

There are going to be significant changes and they will be largely irreversible.

It's really not much of a leap to make.

First of all, I wasn't condemning your post, just offering up an alternative viewpoint.

Ok, let's try it another way. Why would it be a shite product without all of the TOP STARS that would sit out because they've already made the decision to go to the NFL? Why would it matter if the top stars don't play, but the majority of everyone else does? Do you really think that die-hard fans would not watch if that was the case?

When you start talking about not having a star QB, LT, MLB, #1 CB, top 2 WRs, etc, teams aren't going to be as good. Take LSU for instance. We would lose at least our top 2 WRs, best safety and possibly an OL. That's after a season where we sent a record number of players to the NFL. Other teams would get hit much harder.

Still not understanding where you're getting this from. No one said that people wouldn't watch. Are you drunk?

No, but you are apparently an unintelligent jacka$$. I thought I was conversing with someone with higher than a five year-old intellect.

I was wrong.

You really are a fricking idiot....and you can't blame it on being drunk. It is just you at your best.

spring season will be a fricking shitshow starting in Feb. means you're gonna be dealing with the last half of college hoops assuming college basketball is allowed to have a season not to mention march madness.

college baseball and softball also starts in feb. what happens to those sports?

everybody is banking on a vaccine being available as early as March of next year yet they ignore the fact of there being a high chance that's not gonna happen

and what about any potential bowl games or championship games? if you start in feb/march you'd have to wrap up no later than may/june to begin preparations for a fall 2021 season

I wish I could upvote this 1,000 times. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. I wish the pros would start a minor league football system and let colleges go back to student athletes who are playing for the love of the sport and value a free education.

I’ve wanted this so badly for years. There’s a part of me that feels ashamed to be supporting the product that college football has become...at this point I’m not sure it’s a positive thing for society. I personally don’t give a rat’s arse about skill level.

People will still watch because they care about the college teams regardless of the talent level. How many professional teams outside the NFL have had more talent than college teams but failed anyway because no one gave a shite?

People in Alabama would rather watch a future accountant score TD's for the Tide or Tigers than a fringe NFL player do the same for the Birmingham Iron.

Yes, the more talented players the more fun it is to watch, but the primary interest is in the schools, not the players.
