With the proliferation of high-powered offenses, to me it's especially impressive that the SEC has three of the top five defensive performances during that span.
Assuming most of these were conference games, it also seems to indicate that there is a significant disparity (a top and bottom tier) between SEC teams and their ability to score quickly.
In other words, first quarter defense seems to correlate directly with overall success during the past few years.

Georgia has had a tough time scoring last in the past few years

Or maybe the best 1Q defenses are just the best defenses

That's probably true.
Also may have something to do with overcoming an opponent's game plan and lack of coaching adjustment throughout the game.
As an example, which will probably get shite all over, Alabama allowed 33-points to LSU in the first half, but none in the third quarter after halftime adjustments (and a 15-point positive swing in the second half overall).
Obviously a lot of factors went into it by that point in the game, but it's clear that even a disastrous first quarter or half can be adjusted for.
If you're a team (or staff) that can't make those adjustments, it's a hard hole to climb out of.

Then the LSU offensive coaches made adjustments to bama's and couldn't be stopped in the fourth quarter. LSU wins game.

Right, I'm not saying LSU couldn't adjust just as well to do what they needed to do, but comparatively that's a difficult task for other, lesser teams/staffs.

stopped in that opening drive by an uncharacteristic turnover from burrow... they were marching down the field to make it 40-13

Yeah, Tua did the same thing on the first drive of the game.

you had two fluke touchdowns on stingley and a punt return where mcmath should've wrapped up. net net you're lucky that's a 5 point game and not a 3 or 4 TD game
