Sounds like a great idea. Overpay someone who doesn't want to be there. What could go wrong?

There’s mutual interests according to both South Carolina and Xavier insiders

You can win big there. Staley has proven it in WBB, and Frank had his run. There's a ton of basketball talent in SC. If you could get Ja Morant and Zion Williamson to stay home, you can win a title.

Big if, but with UNC and Duke both transitioning away from legendary coaches, USC could be primed for a major step up in the basketball world. Sleeping giant and all that.

if PJ dozier had stayed to provide upperclassmen leadership then Zion would have come here per what he told Thornwell. As for Morant everyone else in the state whiffed on him too which is a total shame. Not sure where the failure lies on that one but I feel like the coaches around here just gave a cursory glance to the recruiting rankings and the finger slid right over Morant cuz he was a zero star or whatever. No actual feet-on-the-ground evaluation work, taking the clipboard to the all star game kind of stuff. This ain’t exclusive to frank cuz like I said every school in the state looks stupid for this one, cuz they let the staff at Murray State prove that they put more actual attention and work on their recruiting than an ACC and SEC school and the other misfit teams around here. Isn’t Dalzell like 40 minutes from OBurg? Anyhow yeah it would all be moot if Dozier hadn’t gotten shitty advice and decided to leave post Final Four, as we probably would have ended up getting ZW and most definitely an earlier commitment from GG/Cam Scott.

Oh and yeah right to Tanner being able to convince the pearl clutchers to go after someone with… *gasp* a shady recruiting record in the most corrupt cut throat iteration of college athletics. I’ll believe that when the ink dries, but until that day comes Ray Ray will most likely frick this up. Hope not cuz I still kind of like the guy but holy shite does he regularly make baffling decisions. Like, I dunno, firing the guy with a realistic shot at the NUMBER ONE RECRUIT NOW instead of 3 years ago when it was clear we had not capitalized on the final four run properly, let dozier leave way too early, and whiffed on Zion and Morant.

This would a shite hire, given all the circumstances, that won't take long to blow up in your face.

Actually, they do.

They've never hired a coach that's neck deep in an NCAA investigation and facing multiple level-1 charges that are sure to result in a lengthy show cause.

But hey, rock on. It isn't like y'all aren't used to watching the tourney on TV instead of playing in it.

There's absolutely nothing out there from national guys, but I guess they're obviously focused on the tournament.

Why would you hire a coach who is about to get a show cause for stuff at his last school he was fired from?

Beats me, maybe the powers that be know something that we don't know.
