South Carolina and the ACC :: Why the divorce?

Just read that the Cocks were founding members of the ACC; I didn’t realize that (I’m still learnin’ about all y’all’s histories; go easy on me).
Why the breakup? Yeah I could Google it, but I’d rather hear the story from friends. Was it a money deal? Hurt feelings? Logistics?
I was wholly committed to the Ags leaving the B12– that was never anything but a Frankenstein conference. But I still admittedly feel a [dysfunctional] allegiance towards the SWC. I’m wondering whether y’all have any deep-seated, historical feelz for the ACC?

We need to kick out expansion teams (illegal imigrants) to where they came from.

Yes.
That’s exactly why we accepted the SEC invite.
I’m grateful to you for getting that post out of the way.
But this thread isn’t about Texas A&M.

North Carolina schools treated both South Carolina schools worse than Texas treats Big12 schools. Both clemson and South Carolina were gonna leave, but only we had the balls.

Tobacco Road politics. Us and Clemson were (at the time) treated like redheaded stepchildren by them even tho we were founding members. The NC schools were their darlings. Clemson was supposed to leave with us but wimped out at the last second. We, on the other hand, flipped 'em off and yelled kiss our asses as we left those assclowns behind. Wandered the deserts of independent teams until joining the SEC. (Got in a buttload of fist fights on the field with Miami, who was also independent and whom SC played regularly as such, during the independent stint...still bad blood between SC and Miami)
ETA: There we go again, CNB.

We will build a wall along the edge of the conference and keep the trash out. Georgia Tech is gonna pay for it for running from us

Pretty much. North Carolina schools had more lenient admission standards while SC schools were held to a much more strict standard. Just one example.
Or at least that’s the way I’ve always understood it. Obviously I wasn’t alive then

We've been telling y'all forever now that we're the same person but y'all never take us seriously.

1896 - Taters join the SIAA (year after it formed)
1903 - TAMU joined the SIAA
1914 - TAMU left the SIAA
1915 - South Carolina joined the SIAA
1922 - SoCon splits from the SIAA
Clemson (1921) and South Carolina (1922) are in the early members
1932 - SEC splits from SoCon with schools west of the mountains
1953 - ACC splits from the SoCon with schools east of the mountains
This is relevant in an Age of Rail and no federal highway system
By the 1970's highway travel by automobile has replaced rail travel by train. The mountains once separating the areas is now less of an obstacle

It was primarily due to Frank McGuire and our team's basketball success in the 1960's. The NC schools raised academic standards for student athletes, but created an exceptions committee stacked with NC folks. They routinely denied exceptions for USC and Clemson and granted them for UNC, State, Duke and WF. Also, UNC and Duke had us and Clemson play our home basketball games against them in Charlotte. Gamecock old timers hate UNC almost as much as Clemson.
