Sounds like the goal posts are moving regarding college football in 2020

Brett McMurphy was on with Finebaum today and said more and more conference commissioners are coming around to the idea of football still being played even if students are not on campus. The argument is for them to take classes online and for football to be played in empty stadiums if push comes to shove. It's all coming down to money. A lot of these academic institutions and athletic departments rely on football for their very survival.

this will 100% happen barring a massive second spike

Tennessee was supposedly considering only letting students attend spread out throughout the stadium

It's an evolving situation for now (as it should be). There's no reason to rush a decision at this point.

They literally are planning to spread the goal posts out more to encourage social distancing. Expect a 120 yard field this fall

If students are not on campus, and fans are not in the stadium, there will be no football.
It’s very simple.

It’s exactly how it is going to work and you are a dullard if you think otherwise.

Why would they turn down all of that tv money for your silly reasons? $$$ matters.

ADs would rather football be moved to the spring than for it to be played in empty stadiums.
No fans = no football

And they would be losing tens of millions by playing in empty stadiums for a full season.
It will get pushed to the spring way before they have a football season w/ no fans.

And they would lose hundreds of millions not playing the sport at all.

There is no way football will be played in the spring. It will interfere with the other sports, recruiting, and also will give teams insufficient time to prepare for the 2021 season.
The only way they play football in the spring of 2021 is if they decide to permanently make football a spring sport.

CFB without fans won’t happen

If it isn’t “safe enough”for students to be on campus. It won’t be considered safe enough for players to train/practice/play together. This will come down to the lawyers, state and federal health agencies and insurers. ADs will just do what they are told.

I mean you have to be a mouthbreather to think they wouldn’t allow students on campus but would allow football to still be played (like OP).

Nope, what's 10's of millions?
When some coaches cost that.
It could definitely be like NASCAR where it's TV that finances the sport, not people in seats or the infield. And as big as those dollars have been in the past, they'll loom even larger in a down economy or sparse crowds and mean much more to an AD (and balancing a budget).
