I don’t have a problem with “us” if someone actually attended or is attending the school. The sidewalk/t-shirt fans should never use “us.”

Those “sidewalk” fans you refer to are responsible for a great majority of the revenue of most collegiate athletic departments I would bet. Also comprises a great majority of most SEC fanbases.
Except for Auburn of course, they don’t have any sidewalk fans…
