We are currently the 19th winningest program in history
But 20 years ago, we were at number 10. We were the 10th ranked winningest of all time.
That's how far we've fallen with bad hires Stan Heath and John Pelphrey (reason Anderson is being given plenty of rope). Case in point, there was a reason Dana Altman took our HC job after Heath was fired, and stayed one day, and then left.
As asides, both Heath and Pelphrey were really good guys.
Anyway, our big runs were three fold. We were dominant in the 1940's. Then the Eddie Sutton era came and we were dominant again from the mid 70's to the early 80's. Then Nolan Richardson got us rolling again by the late 80's, and we were dominant for a full decade. Thus Sporting News ranking us the 10th winningest program of all time in the late 90's.
edit: 19th, not 28th

Man, I wonder what happened 20-26 years ago that would have started such a decline?

patented Arkansas BS politcos and chips on shoulders, etc., which screw up hiring processes
same in football for us
When Frank Broyles was AD, it was a cross between him being stubborn and him letting others dabble in the decision making - then Long came in and made enemies from day one, mostly never his fault

I think I was a brace faced 12 year old when Nolan started here and a ravishing (with huge hair) woman of 25ish by the time he left, thus explains my love of the game of basketball and my perhaps sometimes nose in the air attitude towards others.

Think joining the SEC in 92 had anything to do with this? Play tougher opponents and you can't expect to win as many games.

Not really - I mean I think it had to do with Nolan burning out and then hiring shitty coaches.
That's not to say the sec isn't better but more so to say it was pretty self-inflicted, imo.

If being a good guy means being a pill addict burnout, yea Pelphrey was top shelf.
Dude also had his neighbors dog killed somewhere in Florida.
Heath didn't really both me and he got canned after going to the NCAAT.
Left Pelphrey a sweet team too.
